These replies are hilarious :sharon:

Not once did I say I don't like Joanne. I love it. It's called having an objective opinion on Gaga's intent with the album vs what she delivered. Get your feelings out of the way and then come back for a discussion please.

What about ARTPOP wasn't relatable? The lyrics? Go read some Duran Duran lyrics, and talk to me about relatable. Lyrically, this is by far her most relatable album, unless you think the general public personally identifies with a government hooker and a bloody mary. Seriously. Exactly how many people do you need to enjoy the album in order for you to accept the fact that you might just simply like it? 80%? 80% of the adult listening public?

Yeah, show me again where I said I won't like it unless everyone else does? I'll wait.

I love the album, but we're talking about whether or not it will connect with non-monsters which was part of Gaga's intent. And in response to your Government Hooker/Bloody Mary comment, I never said those songs were relatable either. I gave examples of her relatable material so.. come again.

Joanne is her most personal album ever and if that doesn't connect with the public what the **** will?

Uhhhhhh, people refused to connect to ARTPOP, it was SO relatable... "put some lipstick on, perfume your neck and slip your high-heels on" .... .. .how many girls and guys do that?!?!?!??!

not to mention "I killed my former and left her in the trunk on highway 10" :emma:

no but really, ARTPOP was relatable, people just refused to connect.

But that's not what I said Sweetie. I questioned your need for approval. I can read. I questioned your need for a general consensus. I know perfectly well that you like the album, as you said so yourself. Go back in time and remind me where I even implied that you won't like the album unless everyone else does. I'll wait.

And, to be perfectly clear, you mentioned 3 songs that were relatable to you. You. Just you. 3, from a rather large discography.

Bionic was top 3 in US, Canada and Australia and number 1 in the UK so to me that is not a flop.

I would consider Lotus her true flop. In retrospect Bionic was just a change in direction. Especially coming after Back to Basics, Bionic was just too radically different from her previous work that it alienated many of her most ardent fans.

Which is a shame because Bionic has some gems.

right here "sweetie"

My "need" for a general consensus comes from the fact that Gaga is hoping to reach out to "that girl in the back of the amphitheater" with this album by being relatable. It's Gaga's intent, not some weird obsession I have with her being relatable. And I chose those songs because they're successful and relatable from an objective standpoint. As in, other people have these experiences and it's clear cut and easy to understand. As opposed to a song like Diamond Heart or John Wayne which is more metaphorical.

Wrong quote, sweetie. That is not what that sentence says. It says quite the opposite. It's saying that you should accept the fact that you might just simply like it. Oops!! I just repeated what I said to make my point! But feel free to dig your interpretative hole for yourself.

As for "that girl in the back of the amphitheather," well I guess you're not that girl in the back of the amphitheater. You're the girl on the edge of glory, I guess. And, just to hammer a point, please explain to me the lyrics of Alejandro. It's a life experience I missed out on.

Like I said before in the thread, put your feelings and then we can discuss. It's Gaga's aim to make this album relatable to people who never thought they could relate to her before. My argument is that a majority of the record is only accessible if you know Gaga's backstory. You seem to have no counter argument.

Sis you're missing it. You think Gaga is the only female to ever want a wild man? She doesn't eve name drop Lüc. I'm sure nobody connected to their dying grandfathers with TEOG from the GP either. The music is way too good too, and I love songs I can't relate too as long as they sound good. No stress sis

The difference is this album is autobiographical (first verse of DH, compare with the first verse of MTN).

Telling someone that they have no counter argument is the laziest way of arguing. Surely you know this by now. Do you need me to explain the songs for you? I can do it really quickly. Nothing complex here. Diamond Heart is about moving through one's flaws and recognizing one's strengths because of them (common gaga theme). A-Yo: party song, no reason to dig too deep. Joanne: the loss of a loved one. John Wayne: wanting a real man, and always falling for the stereotype. DO YOU REALLY NEED ME TO DO THIS FOR YOU? These are not complicated themes!! At All!!!

You're missing it. Gaga's aim is to appeal to the people who never thought of her as relatable before. She accomplished that perfectly with Million Reasons. She missed on the other songs. I'm not saying people couldn't relate but it's hard when she's being so autobiographical. It's like she forgets people don't know as much as her fans.
