I can't remember a single person disliking it. Then mid November came, and the fanbase was spiteful of the management failures. Then it did poorly critically and commercially, and a lot of people decided that they disliked it after the fact.

Hopefully this won't happen with Joanne. The music's genuinely amazing, and charts and stuff are just a byproduct of people's love for the music.

i was so exited for ARTPOP after watching the itunes performance.... but when i heard the album i was so disapointed....mostly because of the change of sexxx dreams (was completely ruined for me) :duck: and swine was nowhere near as fist pumping as the live.....i think gaga was going through a lot of mental struggles and fighting hard for her control over things...hence why she changed i wanna be with you to a completely uncommercial song and etc. i do think this album was neccasary for the creation of joanne though....:hor:

I disliked it.

I wasn't slayed.

I'm not here for chart success and number one singles.

By removing ARTPOP you would be improving Gaga's discography.

Now, it's time to move on because of 'Joanne'.

I remember I loved it, and I still do, and I don't get why people attack it as if it was some sort audio-poop but ok.:queenga:

I also remember everyone was in love with G.U.Y. from the very first listens.

I remember what it was like. ARTPOP had certain songs which were instantly loved by the fanbase, monsters and pop stans. Applause was a grower, everyone was obsessed with G.U.Y. and DWUW, Venus was pretty well liked, MJH was liked by some, and then the rest were just enjoyed or straight up disliked by many.

I personally love the songs on ARTPOP, it was a little predictable, but it was still very much a departure sonically from her last work as always with Gaga. I instantly loved Applause because I felt from the start it was a song that she really made as tribute to the fans, but of course there are songs I like better as always with her lead singles, and then other songs I connected with more in general. Nothing on ARTPOP did I despise or hate, just certain songs I liked more than others.

I liked AP and still like it, some people dislike it after the lack of commercial success, i just wish there hadnt been so many troubles with her staff resulting in a messy era tbh

yeah i cared less about the chart success as i did with the messy management. Venus was mistreated. It should have had a video. Same for Sexxx Dreams. The GUY video just...didn't work. I still appreciated it and there were parts that were awesome. Aura should have finished the Paparazzi, Telephone trilogy. It wasn't the lack of success that was disappointing, it was the lack of support.

I think the album reception was pretty decent but people put way too much faith in it to be this massive hit since she was collaborating with big EDM producers like Zedd and seemed to be following the commercial trends. It was also hyped to death by her and her team. I think none of has had any sort of expectations like that for Joanne but damn she stayed quite and just did the damnn thing

Almost everybody loved it at first

Not true, the leak thread on here was bumped recently and there are plenty of mixed reactions. And that was on this forum which is for stans. Reactions were much worse elsewhere from people who couldn't care less about the commercial success or the era.

THIS, Gaga had an amazing vision of what the album and the visuals were going to be about , but none of that became true :(

I was fine with the album. Applause is a fine Gaga song that is super catchy. I still think people forget it's her biggest radio hit.

And I find it funny that ARTPOP was labeled a flop yet its lead sold 3M copies in the US, the album sold 2.5M ww.

Perfect Illusion will be lucky to hit Gold in the US eventually and the album will be lucky to sell 700k ww.

BUT.

I'll take a laid back era like Joanne over AP any day.

ARTPOP was a mishmash of ideas that never seemed to gel. It was Gaga trying to appease fans and give them a weird rave version of The Fame. I feel like she purposely tried to create a fun album but nearly all the songs feel empty. AP has great songs like Applause and DWUW. Hell, I like Gypsy and Venus. But A LOT of the album felt like filter. J&D, Donatella, Fashion!.

I'd like her to create an album like that again. Carefree, fun, super poppy. But it needs to be more refined. No matter how Joanne does critically or commercially, I think it was needed for her growth. I hope LG6 is a return to classic Gaga but maybe through Disco lens.

I will say, I love '70s glam rock, so Joanne is an album I've wanted her to create for awhile. I know it's gonna turn some fans off, and that is totally fine. You win some and lose some each era. I just haven't legitimately hated an era from her yet. Some have been messy (AP), some have been too laid back (Joanne), but I've enjoyed the majority of her five albums.
