Fiona Apple 13,006 Posted October 17, 2016 Share Posted October 17, 2016 The first track, Diamond Heart, is the BEST song on the album.The melody,the instrumental,the lyrics AND the vocals are all ON POINT.It's an excellent song that should have been the lead single (10/10).Then comes Ayo that is definitely not as good as DH but it's a really catchy upbeat song with a really nice melody and great production and vocals.It's definitely single worthy as well .It's one of the few songs on the album that are radio friendly. (8,5/10). Then we have the first ballad of the album,Joanne, that is not really as "heartbreaking" as Gaga described it but it still be really moody and beautiful.The chorus is AMAZING despite being really simple and the vocals are really nice too.I really can't see it as a single but it's definitely an important part of the album! (8/10).Then comes John Wayne which is the much better,weirder,catchier,smarter sister of Mary Jane Holland .It's definitely one of the highlights of the album.It's really weird and unique and surprisingly experimental for Gaga.It wouldn't work as a single either but it's one of the best songs here (9/10). Dancing In Circles is the next track which is so SLUTTY and AWESOME.It gives me Heavy Metal Lover teas combined with beautiful country.Also at that point at the end that she sings in a higher octave it's brilliant! Not sure if the radio would play it but it's definitely single worthy! (9,5/10) Then we have the lead single of the album that is literally one of the weakest songs here.The verses are the only actually interesting part of the song (and the intro).It should have been a simple album track.But it doesn't feel out of place.(7/10) The promotional single "Million reasons" follows which is a really strong ballad.Imo the melody is slightly generic but everything about the song is good.I wouldn't like it as a single though because it's not really interesting enough for me. (7,5/10) Sinner's Prayer follows which is REALLY REALLY good and much better than the live performance.I don't think that it's a good single choice but it is a really strong album track.The chords are really unique and the whole mood of the song is amazing.(8,5/10) Then comes "Come To Mama" which has positives and negatives.Positives:The vocals are INCREDIBLE and the production is really really good. Negatives:The lyrics MAKE ME CRINGE. And the melody/rythm is quite annoying.... I do like some parts of the song though (5/10) Then we have "Hey Girl" which is the only song that I really don't have a good opinion yet and it needs more time.It sounds really interesting but slightly empty.It's defnitely not a single.But I won't rate it yet,it needs more time.Then we have Angel Down which is the last track of the standard version and the BEST ballad of the album by far.It's a freaking masterpiece.The lyrics,the production,the lyrics and the melody.Everything is heartbreaking,moody and stunning.If she wants to release a ballad as a single,this should be it.(9.5/10) Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
