IDK if we can say Perfect Illusion flopped, top 15 is nothing to sneeze at.

Definitely underperformed for a lead single. That's pretty evident. Perfect Illusion is performing like a 5th single.

She can say all she wants that she didn't intend for it to be a huge hit, but that song was going to be dead in the water after the first week even if the video was simultaneously dropped when the song was released, given the type of video we got.

If anything, the song was a flash in the pan.

Hot for like 3 days then fell into obscurity. Same with Judas and The Edge of Glory. (TEOG could've been an even bigger smash, she sabotaged herself with that video). An outright flop would be a Marry The Night or G.U.Y. or Eh Eh, but even then, it's an off comparison since none of those songs were debut singles.

I've been saying this since Born This Way, but Lady Gaga's struggle isn't peaking, it's sustainability.

Since Born This Way (the single), really only Applause was able to hold its own for a while. The rest of the singles from BTW, AP and Joanne had decent peaks, then dropped like a hot potato.

The Edge of Glory and Do What You Want had potential but she (and/or the label) pulled the plug on that themselves.

Getting people to listen a few times initially isn't the challenge. Keeping them listening is.

Without sustainability, eras come to an end real quick.

I'd rather have a slew of top 5 singles that never went #1 but stayed in the top 5 for a few weeks than a bunch of songs that went from #1 to like #36 the very next week then like #87 the next. Unfortunately, she's at the point where neither are happening.

Her talent doesn't deserve this type of underwhelming chart run. It's sad, really.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Interscope started tightening the reigns on her. Music not the bling, but it's still a business at the end of the day. All the other labels are watching so it's not like they'd give her any more leg room than what Interscope did and she'd be shooting herself in the foot if she were to TRULY go IndieGa.

Nah, it definitely flopped by Gaga standards. She's not a nobody and if she had released a major bop it would have longevity. A flop isn't defined by its peak position; it's defined by not having longevity. I don't think PI will be able to stay for more than 8 weeks on that chart.

PS: I really like PI but yeah it flopped.

Calling a #15 peak position a 'flop' is so offensive is so offensive to up & coming new artists who can't even crack the BUBBLING UNDER HOT 100 CHART yet. #15 is a hit not a flop.

OP: :gaycat:

I know people will try and excuse it by saying things like "it went top 15, that's still good!" But like, yeah, it's not a bad position, but it only made it there because Gaga's pre-existing fanbase were always going to buy the song as soon as it came out no matter what. Having a decent debut because of a loyal fanbase doesn't equate to the song connecting with a wide audience or being a hit.

I love PI and personally I feel like it deserves to do a lot better than it has, but let's be real, it's not a hit :laughga: not even close
