Im not saying or disputing actual violence on blacks but I really fail to grasp how is "prejudice" really different to being "racist"?

i mean, the very definition of being racist is being prejudiced against a race

I guess, literal definition wise, there isn't. The definition has just shifted towards a newer meaning recently, because white people experience racism in such  a different manner than PoC. White privelege lends to this. It's rare when a white person experiences racism that has any real meaning. It can be upsetting, and emotionally abusive, but for black people it's all that and more, because it comes from people who have the power to kill and get away with it. It comes from people who are voted into office, who ignore issues black communities face. Look at Flint, MI. A poor community of mostly black people. Their water is still lead infested. If it was all white people who were dying from poisoned water, it would cause so much more outrage. There would be justice, solutions. I'm rambling again but I hope you understand lol. Racism against black people comes from people in positions of power where their racism can affect millions of lives for the worse. White people just get their feelings hurt. This is why people view it to be trivial/non existant.

I guess I'm just not updated with these new terms then. Always thought hate is hate just like how love is love. Thanks for the clarification.

Born To Slay

To people saying that str8 people have it better in society, I'd like to point out something.

Many str8 users have also been ostracized and outcasted for different reasons and this site is suposed to be a place where everyone is treated like they belong. Acting like its unusual for a demo to be a Stan of Gaga kinda hurts that experience. That says to that person "wow, just another place I don't fit in". Not all str8 people have the same life experience.

We're all learning! It's hard to wrap your head around the scale of an oppression that you do not face. Thank you for being so open minded and respectful!

all there is is homophobia.

queer people are a minority group thats been oppressed in multiple societies for many years.

the resentment for straight people usually manifests in individuals who suffered particularly traumatizing experiences due to their minority stress.

heterophobia is not real. an aversion, avoidance, and disengagement with heteronormativity and heterosexual culture is an effect of homophobia.

thank u

This :golfclap:

It isn't for it, but he's saying that people who belong to those groups don't face any sort of oppression. I do, and I face oppression.

to put it nicely, true equality comes form acknowledging that others suffer far worse than others, due to prejudices, privilege, bigotry. saying love is love, hate is hate, sort washes away the struggles of others. its like saying "yeah my problems are just as valid as your problems, because hey, they're both problems eh?"

no i know, but when people say that, what they mean is you don't face oppression for those very reasons. like, a white person can be poor and still have white privilege, its not like having social privilege means you're a billionaire. like, you don't face oppression as a white person, you face oppression for being trans. being white is kind of secondary to that struggle because it is a particularly progressive idea that a lot of people still don't understand unfortunately.

I understand how intersectionality and oppression works, lol. Thank you though!

This thread is a joke, it just shows how ignorant some of you are by stereotyping 90% of the earth's population. 'Straights are so sensitive' like this has to be a joke right?

it's just a joke

it's just a joke

it's just a joke

the fact that this is an "issue" is ridiculous why are people so bad at reading irony? it can be difficult if you're reading an ambiguous text but it doesn't take much context to figure out irony in a self deprecating forum

if anything gays are obsessed with straight guys

Laugh all you want, but as a straight female on this site sometimes I do feel ashamed to be straight. I know it "sounds stupid" because it's a very rare situation. Straight people also don't have to deal with what the LGBT community goes through - and I am very caring towards what the LGBT community has to deal with from cruel unnaccepting people. GGD is the only time I've felt weird about being straight or like I shouldn't talk about it.

How is it to feel like we gays can feel everyday, in our real lives? How does it?

_____

Grow up. Yall are whining about feeling ashamed of being straight on a website that doesnt matter, a freaking pop forum. We gays get opressed like that in our REAL lives, and often cant be ourselves in public, have to hide, feel ashamed, dont get well represented on tv, and can even be killed or emprisoned in some places for being what we are.

Yall straights whining in this thread are so sensitive and weak it's funny. This is not real life. Everything in this world is made for you. One website or popstar isnt and you're already going at it talking about being opressed. Ridiculous. On top of that about something that is a joke :smh:

I find it lowkey shocking that you think you can give lessons. The nerve.
