Is Gaga's performance art forever gone?

I mean... I believe it's just the thing this era. We act like this is all she's ever going to do again.

Im sure the next album will be completely different than Joanne. It's just another story and sometimes you just have to see that artistic vision doesn't have to be a high concept with triple meanings... It can be straight forward and personal.

Currently listening to Joanne

Does highly energetic simply mean doing some moves on stage? What I mean is more than that. Creativity, wit, and a vision.

I mean she can still put on an exciting, creative show with the songs she has presented to us :)

I feel like you are somehow implying that a performance can only have creativity, wit and a vision if it's choreographed. That's not the case.

Tonight was performance art though. Gaga is playing as Joanne, an indie singer who hasn't made it yet

Her lack of performance art is performance art, a reverse Joannian experience.

This makes sense to me :saladga:

Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

The thing is, I don't remember Stefani. Nobody does. We weren't there with her to begin with. We stanned for Gaga, because of who she was, and only learnt about Stefani much later.

Stefani was there all along. Joanne was in Stefani, Stefani was in Gaga, but now Joanne is in Stefani in Gaga. Everytime it was just Gaga and the piano, you were hearing Joanne through Stefani. It's very metaphysical.

I can easily see performing like this, and that's exciting for me :laughga:

I'd add her Bowie tribute to the list but it's hard to find a full version.

Good GAWD I just adore that MANiCURE performance. It's epic. One of my favorite performances of hers of all time.

It's brilliant! It's playful, energetic, a little sexy and it's kinda a perfect mixture of choreographed and intuitive. Like she has her clearly rehearsed choreographed bits mixed in with her just rocking out. Also her voice is like daaaaamnnnn!

She actually said in the last radio interview

"You gotta play the dive bar like its the superbowl, and you gotta play the superbowl like its a dive bar"

So now im kinda worried about the SB halftime show now, i hope she performs a great show :(

Preach tbh.

Can everybody just stop with "oh i miss stefani i'm so glad she's back, you don't know her bla bla" you don't know stefani you only know Gaga. I fell in love with Gaga and the singer on that budlight stage is NOT Gaga for me and it really pisses me off. This is a different musician making different music that i don't enjoy. If i wanted to hear country I wouldn't have stanned for gaga when just dance came out lol

She said very clearly in a recent interview (sorry, I forget which) that crazy costumes were still in her future. :)

What she did tonight basically was performance art. She's destroyed what we decided Lady Gaga had to be, and has created a singer/songwriter on the road singing in tiny bars about love and loss. Joanne is performance art, but in a more subtle way. Her venue choices, her use of words in her speech, her style of dress. This was definitely performance art.

But also listen to the songs she's been making. I cannot imagine her performing them in any way other than singing it straight. Gone are the days when she will ever bleed on stage, do choreography or have several costume changes...

let me just ask you this: when she performed at the oscars back in 2015, to the sound of music medley, and we all felt that universal jaw dropping awe of her vocals, how beautiful they where, how shocking that was to hear such nuance, and grace, then end with that powerful D note, where you at all thinking "omg this is NOT the gaga i fell in love with!" or "WTF?? she didn't even do dance choreography".

like, i get that it wasn't her own music, but my point still stands, was that not a creative performance? just because she was being vomited on or bleeding to death? how is a performance like that less creative, theatrical, and powerful?
