Whispering 18,865
Do people even listen to what she says? "Pushing the envelope in other ways" was referring to something controversial or extremely out of place at a SuperBowl. She's just saying she is going to respect the audience and mesh her vision and creativity with what will be enjoyable for the audience. This isn't SXSW, the bull riding/vomit Swine wouldn't be acceptable. That's all there is to this statement. The drama queens doing the most, as usual. OT: I don't know much about the 'Superbowl culture' but wouldn't a theatrics performance do well? Like Paparazzi at the VMA's or the Monster Ball's story. Anything except for Applause at the VMA's cuz (surprise!) but I don't think that performance was very good (compared to the 2009 VMA at least). One member pointed out that Prince's was actually live, but as far as "modern" Superbowl shows go, they are all pre-recorded, from instruments to the live voice. Same for the BEP and Katy. Beyoncé has been exposed several times for using pre-recorded vocals during her tour, and since the NFL is very picky and careful, it's very likely she used pre-recorded vocals too. Just watched Coldplay's Superbowl and there's no way these instruments are live. They don't sound live at all, their instruments do not look plugged in at all. Maybe Coldplay's singer was live (I heard flaws here and there) but that's all. So yeah, this whole "live instruments and vocals" is pure bullshit. From logistical issues, sound issues and NFL's policy, there's no way she'll be able to pull a "raw talent voice + instruments" performance without cheating somehow. She could have taken a couple of more years off to do movies or have kids...and might do that in the near future. She is in control of her life and you are in control of yours. If you are waiting for some stranger to make your life better or worthwhile, that's a problem!
AmenTheNight 1,084
If anyone's interested, just watch the documentary of the behind the scenes of Katy Perry's SB performance. You'll see how every little detail is thought out, rehearsed, respected and controlled. There is no room for freedom or **** ups in such a controlled performance, that's why I think the relationship between Gaga's vision and the NFL will be messy and complicated, knowing their ways (Gaga's and the NFL). M I M I Z 946
99% of her dream team left her in 2011 and since then she's not the same anymore. RedOne and Troy in my opinion are the main reason for Gaga's rise to stardom whether you haters like it or not and without them she's struggling commercially. You can look at the music videos and clothes and the performances during the ARTPOP era and you will see how cheap they look compared to The Fame Monster for example. She tried to do it by herself but she failed. + I really want to ask Gaga why do you think your original team left you? there must be a reason and a good one
StrawberryBlond 14,872
She's so cool in this interview, I love it. She truly gets what the public want right now - just a show of talent, no gimmicks, no controversy, no BS. You can see that's the case when you look at the biggest selling albums right now and the live performances that are being praised. The public is sick and tired of artists trying and failing to be edgy or being too over-sexualised or OTT in general. That's why Gaga's fame diminished because that style got old real quick in the eyes of the public. She knows to make a successful comeback, she has to show her talent the way the public want her to - a more natural display. Do not underestimate what this could do for her career. Once millions of Americans (and the world) have seen this, they will forever remember and respect her talent, especially if they didn't know it before. But only if she serves talent, not controversy and gimmicks. When she says that she isn't going to push the envelope, she means there won't be any borderline nudity, swearing, suggestive imagery or riding a mechanical bull while being vomited on. Because she knows that stuff is looked down upon (not to mention is a fining offence) at this event. M.I.A was hit with lawsuits when she put her middle finger up at the 2012 show. Beyonce got huge negative attention due to those Black Panther outfits at this year's show. Janet Jackson's career literally ended after Nipplegate at the 2004 show and she even got blacklisted from the radio, even though that had nothing to do with the SB. This performance to make or break a person's career. Janet was an unfortunate victim of what happens if the envelope gets pushed too much. I sometimes wonder if, like she claimed, Justin had just ripped off the covering as planned instead of the entire bra cup if her career would still have been stable but I don't know. Point is, there's a time and place. Gaga knows that. She didn't do anything controversial during her C2C era with Tony or at the Oscars. Someone who's as socially aware as she is knows when she can push the envelope and have it be welcomed and when she'll be shunned. Not to mention knowing when the public actually want to see the envelope be pushed. 22 minutes ago, M I M I Z said: 99% of her dream team left her in 2011 and since then she's not the same anymore. Plus, you can't maintain the same level of success forever and Gaga was going to have a low point after being on top, it's natural. RedOne's sound is too outdated now and Troy's management was no longer making her happy (he's managing Meghan Trainor now and she's flopping massively, so do you still think he knows what he's doing?) With or without them, a low point was imminent, partly because the public grew sick of dance pop and the whole 'crazy artist' thing. Her original team left her because they were limiting her and she wasn't happy. Being a big name artist is a very exhausting life and you have to do what's right for you. She wanted to try new things and wasn't being allowed - if she had put up with it, she'd probably still be doing drugs right now and be in that awful depressed state that she once was. As fans, we have to support what's best for her if we want her to still be around. She's not selfish for wanting to be happy and sane.

witchcocktor 1,438
Lady Gaga is so hype as a performer, and she doesn't need crazy schemes and costumes to make it work and exciting. Isn't this what we've been saying forever.
E24187 615
Do some of yall have amnesia? Those gimmicks and crazy outfits ultimately led to her demise (which was imminent before ARTPOP by the way). One of her nicknames from 2009, 2010 and 2011 (other than Lady Xerox) was Lady Gimmick. To an extent, I agree. It got real old, real quick and overshadowed the music or whatever random "performance art" she called herself peddling. It was cool and interesting at the time, but it's like....okay girl what else you got??? There was a time and place for CrazyGa and I'm sure we will still get something wacky but to expect her to do something weird for the sake of weird the entire show is the Perfect Delusion. The CrazyGa ship has long sailed. Did we learn nothing from Born This Way? Yall craved for her to "go back" to her original sound after she fell from grace during Born This Way (and the fall started with Alejandro), attempted that with ARTPOP and yall still dragged her then retroactively acted like Born This Way was all of a sudden a masterpiece. I've seen too many people here forget how Born This Way and its gimmicks were dragged for filth. I wouldn't expect anything beyond a neat stage design and maybe some avant garde, but not controversial, fashion. Her vocals and choreography has to do the rest. Mark Ronson is good on the guitar. I'm here for him being one of her guests to kill it. Is she still connected to Intel? Maybe she can do parts of her original 2016 Grammy performance. Choreography is not her talent so we don't need acrobatics, just some leg and arm shuffling. My one request is that if she's playing the piano, she needs to practice. There's a difference between a person who plays the piano and a PIANIST. She needs to play more than just chords, no growling then random finger-pointing to the audience (as she does oh so often during You & I) and not bang on the keys. Have yall seen her MTN performance in Portland during the BTW Ball? She was wearing a Versace robe, the instrument was just an organ, the whole arena was blue, her vocals were solid and it was HAUNTING. It made me see that song in a different light. That particular performance is a bit slow for a Half Time show, but if she can reintroduce her old music in a new way to remind people why she became famous in the first place, then play some of her recent stuff to get them into her now, that would be a success. It will be hard to accomplish that though, if she has gimmicks and everything else in the way. The 2013 AMAs with R.Kelly (I know) was also a great performance where she had gimmicks (overused ones at that...Marilyn Monroe and JFK), but the choreography was on point, her vocals were fantastic and the storyline was accessible. Even the gimmick in that performance was played right. Yall want a recreation of the 2009 VMA performance and 2010 VMA red carpet, which will be dragged the world over, including by myself. The majority of us still around don't remember how hot of a song Poker Face was. We remember how obnoxious and attention-demanding the meat dress and blood performance were. Her super bowl performance needs to fix that.
Janne Monsen Tveit 132
I think it just means «don't expect me to do the wildest or most shocking things of my career». I'll be very surprised if she goes minimalistic or only showcases this era. It will probably be a mix of everything, a piano part, dancing, the biggest hits, some surprise guests (like Elton John), Mark Ronson will probably be there and she'll show her raw voice and blah blah... But it will be a Gaga show. This will be her best planned show ever. I'm rooting for her <3 http://730.no
