Joanne's impact. Let's not forget, either the BTW or TFM's tours (or the albums themselves, I forgot which) were also called Joanne behind the scenes. 7 minutes ago, Slayer said: Yeah, I just have a hard time understanding the whole thing at the moment. I'm hoping the album clears it up. I just can't understand why she and her family laud Joanne as some Christ-like figure. Like, it's sad that she died young, but I don't get why Gaga is so emotionally attached to someone she never met. From my perspective, I think this album is Gaga's desperate plea for approval from her dad. She already admitted she has daddy issues (God knows why - they seem extremely close), so it would make sense that Joanne is her way of finding an emotional connection to her father. In that respect, I love the idea of the album, but I just wish Gaga would stop with these overblown statements about a dead relative. It's just weird and unrelatable. But she has always connected herself with Joanne, even having her name as a middle name and having one of Joanne's poems in the Fame booklet. Plus, there are a lot of similarities between Gaga and Joanne. Joanne herself died of lupus, which Gaga is borderline for. She was also poet and probably into other forms of art as well. I don't think they see her as Christ-like. That makes it sound like a cult. They're just a strong and close family, which is weird and probing to those of us who don't have such bonds with our family. And as I stated above, with Misaki, Gaga has always connected herself to Joanne. This is nothing new. But I like she waited until now to make the album. To where she was an adult and could actually perform this how she wants to.
chrismugler 944
Omg this era is just way more unexpected that I thought it would be. This might be lyrics from the title track and we're taking it so serious, and I hope so B.B.A. / Music Lover / Human.

All she is ever said is how she is a daddy's girl and all that. No, she definitely said she has daddy issues in a recent interview, I remember it clearly because I thought it was a weird thing to say considering how close they seem to be. Don't ask me to find the interview but I'm sure someone will back me up. I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

lavenderblondee 3,695
It's odd, because this Joanne thing has ALWAYS been something we've heard about. I mean we've heard rumored lyrics and all these things that sound similar to what she's saying now. So, this isn't nothing new but taken to this extent... I don't know. It's also one thing to name an album after a dead relative you never met, but to tell fans to "call" you Joanne makes me really uncomfortable. Who knows what context she was really saying it in, but it threw me off. I feel like she's trying so hard to "go back to her roots" but a part of me feels like she was so young when she got famous, what really ARE her roots? And she's maybe realizing this. I don't know. Am I dumb for thinking this? To me this is the most insecure we've seen her, where about other people will probably say I'm crazy and this is the most "Stefani" and "real" her we've seen. But to me, when I watch Gaga interviews early on, she seemed so positive and sure of herself. She knew what she was about and knew what she wanted to tackle in this industry. Yeah, this definitely could of been her playing herself up for the cameras, but I don't know. I feel like she's trying hard to push this idea she has of who she is suppose to be/wants to be onto Joanne and projecting herself as something different. Is this an era that is a departure from as well as an ego that is separate from "Lady Gaga" that we know and love? She's done it before for tracks (Jo Calderone, Yüyi) in the past, but has Lady Gaga acquired an entire new facet for the next 2-3 years? She said Joanne is Gaga without the Fame. SO.... It just seemed like....girl, you didn't know her...you have nothing but pictures and stories to go off of and you're acting like she was physically present in your life and left a tangible void after her death. My dad's sister (i.e. my aunt) died at age 13 and they named my cousin after her, but none of us (the grandchildren) KNEW her. My grandparents, my dad and aunts and uncle talked about her and that's pretty much all I have of her, but I, personally, have no connection or memory of her. I could see if this was her dad making an album. It was sad my aunt died at a young age, but I'm not writing an album named "PATRICIA" I'm not in Gaga's head, so I'm not really digging much deeper than what I've already typed, but this just seemed like another one of those way above people's heads sentiments she rambled about during TFM and BTW. Well in her defense, it's not like she just started talking about Joanne now. She tattooed her death date years ago, published many of her poems when she released The Fame, always prayed to her before her shows. Even in her explanation of bloody mary somewhere, she talked about how she felt joanne as a intermediate with the spirit world and that she always sort of prayed to her. We don´t know or understand her believes of the spirit world that could explain why she feels so close to Joanne even if they never met.

Her persona changes so frequently it is simultaneously entertaining and disturbing. I'm also surprised at the extent at which she has let Mark Ronson influence her style, sound, and creative direction. And you're so right in saying "what ARE her roots?" because it's true... her musical history is all over the map. I don't know if she considers her roots to be jazz, rock, dance or what; its honestly so confusing for me as a fan. I'm holding out because Joanne could be legendary. I just hope it's authentic... and not "authentic" as in acoustic/stripped down sound, but "authentic" in the way that Born This Way was: bold, unapologetic, unique, political, and pure in sound. 🤖⚡️

I'm glad you see where I'm coming from! She was doing the bar crowd for a couple years, but I still don't think this whole "bar dive" thing is as big of a deal as people are making it out to be? Yes, she's familiar with it and has fun with it and it's where she got her foot in the door, but everyone makes it out like she did it for half her life. I cannot agree more with the changing of personas; I get dizzy trying to keep track. Which is why I unfortunately can't take things like this seriously. I just feel like the more she reinvents herself, the more lost she gets. If we listen to her demos and music she made back in end of high school/early college, it is very pop rock/pop esque. I guess I'm just missing out on how this is suppose to be natural and back to basics for her? To me, she did "pop" her version of pop, more than she did anything else? I've always stuck by her and will try to do continue to do so, but I just do hope she finds this authentic sound/vibe she wants out of her music. Her explanation just seemed like typical Gaga non-sense (that is, a drawn out being different for the sake of being different explanation for something that's actually really simple). I also think it kinda contradicts her earlier statement of this not being a concept album. It kinda seems like it is, just on a personal/family level. You can tell she's still figuring out what she's doing with this record with each passing day.
Jonathan Florencio 981
Let's remember that Joanne is part of her name. She might be saying that in the context that the Joanne part of her true name is shinning upon her right now, plus her connection with her aunt. It's like Hey, my dad gave me this rock that he used to call Brock and Brock is my middle name, I have this rock since I was 4 and I feel very attached to it. The rock's shinning through me. I'm channeling this rock. Call me Brock. I use strange metaphors tho
