I think it's worsened by the fact that the entire thing went tits up I don't see pretentious anywhere. She was the queen and ARTPOP was the most waited album. That announcement was everything. Ronk 14,762
The actual definition of "pretentious" does not fit Gaga at all. People here are using the word incorrectly. Gaga is totally not pretentious. I live outside the space time continuum.

I just think some people, as always, were a step behind.

crisTEAne 21,059
8 minutes ago, MaryJaneHolland said: so you're one of those "her poop is art"? no. since art doesn't have a definition, it's up to every individual to decide whether they perceive a certain work/piece as art or not. it's absolutely fine if you don't think that some of the things she does is art; however, do not tell others, who think otherwise, that it is not. their opinion is just as valid as yours. there is this powerful thing called interpretation. hermeneutics is a wonderful discipline. please don't **** on its magic just because you don't care. (i'm not referring to you specifically, i'm talking in general terms.) kevin parker was wrong when he said that ignorance is bliss. well, i'd say that not always. but to answer your question: no. i don't consider her poop to be art. her pee, on the other hand, during the sleeping with gagz launch party, was an art piece as it was an organic part of the warholian voyeuristic concept of her performance. to me it's all about the intention of the work. from my perspective, art has a dynamic form that resembles the process of communication: it's a dialogue in which a message must be conveyed between the artist and the audience. in short, if she were to put her poop on display in a gallery with the intention to draw the GP's attention to the shitty state of the music industry, it'd call it an art piece. a conceptual one, to be precise. i hope i answered your question. if you hurt taylor swift, i'll hurt you back

Gaga is totally not pretentious. Indeed, calling her pretentious would mean she was just trying to find a lazy excuse. But i honeslty think she legit has these very grand ideas, that just sometimes don't turn out as great in real life. It's really quite a normal trait for an Artistic personality. Problem is that her "artistic evolution" dosen't get much of a chance. She's still a big star, so anything she releases will get torn to shreds with criticism, most of it not being constructive criticism. Which only makes it even more incredible that she still keeps her head cool, releasing videos filled with metaphors and symbolism. It's the reason why i still adore her so much, she has a soul which is hard to find anything to compare to.
