Perfect Illusion is one of Gaga's best songs! Definitely top 5. I'm living for this new era. Gaga is so raw, so butch! Surprise me more queen! Give me that organic sounding orgasm that I love 🤘🎶:rockstar:

How many people are going to feel the need to express this sentiment? It's exhausting. We get it – you didn't like the song. Next.

I can be anything. I'll be your everything.

I do agree PI isn't one of her best song (both in production and in impact, especially given the powerhouses behind the record). (On a side note: please don't kid yourself and say PI is her greatest record to date. Subjectively it 100% can be to you, but the production is a bit underwhelming, and the lyrics seem average to me, good but just enough to enjoy).

But this era could possibly be one of her best to date. ERA, not necessarily album (we haven't listened to Joanne yet). The era could be one of her best to date because Gaga has finally freed of herself of everyone's expectations, she just doesn't give a **** anymore. She's been through too much to care.

She just wants to make music, and it's at that point we can truly acknowledge that Gaga is hands-down one of the greatest musicians of our age. She's doing music the way it used to: up to the artist.

These threads are getting pretty redundant, but ignore the thread if you don't like it/have nothing new to say.

Your reply just comes off as snobbish. Not trying to be mean I swear :wtf:

The OP has a right to express an opinion (even though it's an opinion that everyone and their mothers heard before).

And to OP: Just stahp and reply to a similar thread instead. Your opinion doesn't deserve it's own thread at this point.

You're right, I could have been less rude. I apologize. Just really want to see this site go back to a place of celebration and not negativity.

Perfect Illusion is not a comeback single. It's a pivot.

No element of this song insists that it's trying to change the game, or (re-)frame her as the HBIC of mainstream pop music. We thought that going in because the narrative we expected was "COMEBACK." What we got instead was an appetizer for a completely new Gaga brand. We're disappointed partly because of muscle memory: we expect Gaga lead singles to come with a huge promotional push, several performances, a music video "event," among other things. Instead she passively dropped a 3 minute rock song and let people react to it without any kind of pretense. And that's disappointing for us because we're used to the Gaga pizzazz, but it's really ****ing smart for HER because a comeback takes time, and she doesn't want to risk souring her audience again.

As I said in another thread, I'm disappointed that fans don't understand that. Her career went into a tailspin because she overstated her artist panache and under-delivered. People need to see that she can make a good album, without distractions with her imagery or controversies. She needs an album that critics can praise for its content without being distracted by the artist's loudness. She also needs an album that can speak for itself without the pretense of "hi I am a pop star who peaked too soon and am desperately trying to be on top of the world again with this album." If she treads the same line she did her last two eras, she'll crash.

Ya'll need to keep that perspective in check. She's letting PI diffuse organically without a huge push, but she'll be promoting the album. Will she insist on making huge waves or slapping her face on every cover or news story this fall? No ma'am. Her job right now is to get the public's favor by making an album that stands on its merits. Once that's under her belt, the big "GAGA" comeback you want will be much more equipped to punch hard.

Michelle

I kindly and respectively disagree with you. I personally love the song (and the video rocks me) and how this era is going already. Im probably more excited for this album then I have been and that's a lot because I'm always excited. She seems so content and  geunuinely happy that it's making me even more ready to hear this record but that's just me :music:
