AddMeOnMYSPACE 1,947
I think mj is more iconic than madonna because his music appeals to both genders and his music videos are fun and very artistic. Madonna is iconic...but she's just ruining her reputation right now.

He's a much bigger deal than Madge. Well, my answer is based only on my memory of them at the height of their fame (I was young, but I remember ) and they were pretty on par with each other in almost every way...both delivered enough memorable moments throughout the years as well, so I consider them equally iconic... The problem with Buzzfeed's question is that they're trying to get an objective answer about a very subjective thing...what's iconic, what's legendary, what's genius, it's all a matter of opinion, you know...all I can say is that TO ME they're on the same level, and that's as far as I go... ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

Those are two very different things.

Sure it was successful, but it wasn't earned by any means. I like Madonna, i'm not denying her success, I will however deny that she's more iconic than Michael Jackson. It's just a fact whether you agree with it or not. We'll see where MJ's music is in 20 years in comparison with Madonna I respect your opinions, but the last sentence... Both discographies have already endured an insane amount of longevity. I think Madonna and MJ have both done more than enough to be remembered. Madonna has songs that are 30+ years old now and are still remembered/referenced regularly, I don't think she will be forgotten anytime soon.

And this is not an exaggeration.

I have a friend in his twenties who's never heard a Madonna song once. If you asked a kid today who Madonna is, they would look at you crazy. Once again, I never denied Michael's impact or that he's not more well known. I actually tend to think that most kids by default are musically ignorant, and it isn't their fault. Most of them have probably never heard a Beatles song either. I wouldn't be surprised if many of them didn't know Michael's music either but only his persona. swakby 4,100
I think what was really iconic about MJ was his talent, just out of the world. There are artists nowadays that are extremely talented as well but they have not been that commercially successful to change or have some sort of impact like he did. Madonna on the other hand is not the best singer in the world, but she's incredibly creative and smart. She's way ahead of her time and always will be. She pushed the boundaries of popular culture in general, not just music, and will continue to do so imo.
