Easily Michael, wtf who thought it was okay to compare him to madonna MESS

Think objectively. Madonna is definitely very close to Michael's level.

I don't see why this is a "mess", though? Madonna is one of the most successful artists of all time, and so is Michael. They are both widely considered to be the Queen and King of pop, respectively. She pushed boundaries for gender and sexuality in a similar way that Michael pushed boundaries for racial equality (imo). Both have had unfathomably global success that few artists ever had. She's out performed him in certain aspects commercially - for example she has considerably more top ten hits than him. Not to mention their peaks were both at similar times.

Not saying she is indisputably more iconic than him but I think that comparing them is very interesting and actually makes a lot of sense?

So? Only the video is amazing, I never liked the song. Madonna made so much more things than music. He only did music. Just think that when AIDS was becoming a thing and people were hating on the gays, she even released Like a Prayer with a note talking about AIDS, condoms and etc. 30 years ago.

I'd say they are both close. I hate to be "that guy" but I think Madonna's legendary status is downplayed a lot due to the fact that she's female.

She may not have an album that's bigger than Thriller but her career was far more consistent. Michael's biggest hits mostly exist exclusively in the 80s and then really he started to decline after that (even though he does of course have some classics in the 90s). Whereas Madonna was scoring legit smashes from the beginning of her career up until around 2008. She probably has more hits than him, actually. But that's just kinda guesswork on my part.

I'd never downplay Michael's impact or success, this is only about Madonna not getting the credit she deserves. She's considered a laughing stock by most of the GP these days and it's sad because she's achieved more than most artists could ever hope for, all the while reinventing herself with virtually every album. Even Michael didn't experiment as much as she did musically.

So yes Michael probably is more iconic to most people, but I think whether that's right or not and if gender plays into it is a valid conversation to have.

I don't think it's played down because she's a woman, I think it's played down because she is getting increasingly desperate for attention and it's ruining her reputation. Even with the ridiculous child molestation case, Michael's music is still widely played and recognized to this day.

Madonna has no-one to blame but herself.

That word is so misused these days :toofunny: You say "Think objectively" and then give a subjective opinion.

I didn't ask for a free ride, I only asked you to show me a real good time.

Is she? :oprah:

She absolutely is. Her tours were all monumental, she pushed great boundaries at that time, she has an enormous following, like.... I don't know what to tell you. She's done so much it's difficult not to think of her as an almost equal to Michael.

Just because you don't like the song doesn't mean it's bad, you're a bit delusional. Madonna did more than music, she acted (very poorly and unsuccessfully, might I add). Honey, just because it's topical music doesn't stop it from being music.
