I think the Perfect Illusion video is great its exciting and electrifying, she looks crazy and its truly captivating. I probably prefer the paparazzi and bad romance videos shown above but I definitely prefer PI vid to you and I for example! Also PI is her 3rd best ever single behind Bad Romance and Judas in my opinion. I am in love with this new era so far she is killing it!

The video fits the music, and thats what mv are supposed to be in my book. Also, the video has a lot more to offer than you see when you watch it for the first time. The way it was edited, the used visual technigues - lighting, photography direction, the scenery, etc make the video an embodiement of the song.

Maybe I understand being basic in a different way But isn't it about doing wat everyone else is doind and being unoriginal ... cause come on ... PI and Joanne are the exact opposite!

1. Gaga is straying away from the image she has had so far and from the type of music she has made. If she keeps up the same vibe, the same style for her videos and only wears the same crazy outfits she becomes basic and a cliche.  She is Evolving Something normal popstars do NOT do!

2. A video without insane visuals or cgi is not basic - how many videos have you all seen with a similar energy or ferocity of the performance itself. It is more "Gaga" than many of her videos.

3. Collaborating with less known artists, making music with deeper personal meaning, placing the sttention not on her face or ass or boobs or a random beat but making music on a personal level. Basic? Don't think so.

4. Not being thirsty for sales or high chart positions does not make her basic either. She knows how to make a dance hit, knows how to promote a single, she has done it all before, if she is making a different step it is exactly because she is not one of the plasic pop girls that need verification from the public or are being forced by their labels. Gaga is free!

Not shading anyone. If you don't like the new era maybe you will like the one after, of the one after that. This is just how I see it all. This post became too long. Sorry

Depending on whom you ask, not all of her past videos were winners though. "The Edge of Glory" was kinda cute the first time, but I can't rewatch it. I don't care for "Yoü and I," which got some of the leftovers from the original "The Edge of Glory." "Yoü and I" would have actually benefited from something more simple in my opinion. We saw some chunks of the "Do What U Want" cringefest. "G.U.Y." did the good sis "Venus" wrong and brought Minecraft into the mix because whatever.

The approach Gaga took with "Perfect Illusion" works for both the song and where Gaga is as an artist right now. "Bad Romance" was a more complex track, and its video was a perfect fit visually. "Paparazzi" fleshed out the story that the song explored. Gaga hasn't become basic. She's just changed as an artist.

EDIT: This almost makes me sound like a hater. I'm really not. My point is, Gaga typically puts out videos that reinforce the audio or support the songs in some way, and I think that "Perfect Illusion" does that without being over-the-top.
