Charts. Why they are no longer relevant.

Honestly, the whole chart obsession is kinda weird to me since all my other faves never chart on the Hot 100 and may chart for a few weeks on the Billboard 200 when they release a new album. It just seems like something that would be exhausting to keep up with.

A couple of years ago, PI would have debuted in the top 3 with the numbers that it debuted with.

Interesting -- is that a real number? How did you arrive at it?

GP doesnt listen songs to place them in top 100.

They listen songs because they like them and have fun.

Charts formed that way.

No one has an itention to put a song in top 10,except of the stans of artist.

For example; PI was not high on charts, becauseeeee GP doesnt like the song. Not because they hate Gaga so they stayed away from purchasing it.

People like what they are told to like.

I compared it to TEOG and BTW during that era by units and radio spins and compared it to her competition based on Billboards former rules.

People have become more homogenised, a lot of young people want to act or dress or think in a certain way, more so than I've seen before. Maybe its because I'm getting old I don't know, but it seems like vloggers and Facebook stars and all these kinds of new 'celebrities' are having an impact on how people behave. People are become more self obsessed and stuff and I think songs that have real meaning/effort/authenticity put into them are lost on them because there aren't any pitched vocal trap drops or whatever it is that is trendy to listen to.

God I'm old

Edit: and to the original point of the thread that's why I think a lot of the charts are more irrelevant, because they are based off social trends and not actual music choices.

Ultimately yes, the charts aren't the only way to make a long-lasting impact. Many great albums prove that.

If she wants to transition in another phase of her career where she's more interested in strengthening her catalogue regardless of how the mainstream feels about it, that's okay.

However a) the results have to be good b) she has to commit to it: what was the purpose of seeking radio deals and whatnot if the charts don't matter? Just put the song out and call it a day...

I find it a little hypocritical that fans celebrated if Gaga achieved a no.1 song, and if the song failed to do so, writing that charts are no longer relevant.

Although it is rising, almost number 20 on Itunes, Side note  most of the Usual pop stars are struggling on Itunes. I think Itunes is fading myself.

Honestly, I would argue that charts are more relevant and accurate then they have ever been before. Previously, when only sales and airplay counted, the charts could be majorly influenced by what radio DJ's wanted to see, now with the advent of streaming, we are able to more directly reflect what people are listening too on a weekly basis. At the end of the day you have to remember that charts reflect popularity, not quality. The purpose of the billboard hot 100 is to show what songs are biggest in the country, and people may like to listen to what you may consider bad. Charts not representing what you like does not mean they are a joke, it means they don't reflect your taste.

That's what fans always start to say when their favs have entered a flop era... :madge:

Exactly. That's the same reason given for artist that couldn't get a Grammy.
