"Everyone knows the comments are the worst part of YouTube, but now the company is seeking your help to keep things in check with a new program called YouTube Hereos.

Basically, it’s a community for volunteer moderators, but it’s not just a simple online forum. The program is divided into various levels, and you gain points for flagging content, adding captions or sharing knowledge. At Level 2, you can join in on ‘exclusive workshops’ and participate in video chats with other heroes. At Level 3, you can mass flag videos and delete user comments like a champ.

Level 4 gives you ‘sneak peaks’ at new products and lets you chat directly with YouTube team members, and finally Level 5 lets you try new features before they’re public and attend something called a Hereos Summit event."

Finally, it's time for those trolls to go away. :neyde:

Many users hate the idea though, I guess bunch of yt users are trolls. :awkney:

The Level thingy is kinda exciting though, imagine if we have it here in GGD. We'll have our levels based on our like points and ppl on higher level can do something that ppl in lower level couldn't, like deleting threads/comments or something like that.

Getting rewarded for mass flagging videos seems great. There's no way that can be abused at all.

Spoiler

Not to mention they're making the users do their job for free.  Enjoy working an unpaid job as YouTube employee. :lana:

Omg this sounds horrendous. Watch the wards break out. Watch the social justice warriors have a f-ucking field day. watch people get drunk on power deleting comments simply because they don't agree with them. Watch the general public retaliate by spamming negative comments purposely to get back at the mods. Watch YouTubers profits get hurt because the amount of comments they get factors into how much they get paid. Holy crap... YouTube is doing all kinda of mental things these days.

@ anyone who participates in the YouTube community:

I think the comments section definitely needs to be sorted, I don't think this is the way to do it. Giving people ranks, letting them 'earn' points, and giving them special privileges! I can't even begin to explain how badly this could go...

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

I'm not gonna complain before I see where this goes. I'm happy they decided to at least do something about it.

this is TERRIBLE. this is literally a form of censorship

Well imagine youtube becoming like Gagadaily. If you can live with the censorship of GGD then you'll live with the censorship elsewhere.

First off, Comparing GGD to YouTube is comparing apples to oranges. There's probably only a few hundred thousands visitors - most not being posting members - and this site is just for fun. Youtube has billions of visitors and is a much more serious platform and source on the internet. People make their livelyhood from Youtube - Youtube is also a political tool, an educational tool, an entertainment tool and so much more.

Now the more concerning point of your statement is how nonchalant you are about censorship. It's like people saying "I'm not afraid of the NSA spying on me because I have nothing to hide." - it's a dangerous precedent. If you give them inch they will take it and run a mile. Then when everyone is really up in arms it will be too late to do anything about it. Once the can of worms is open it will be near impossible to put it back in.

But why is censorship on here okay?
