Could Gaga have been inspired by Sophie Ellis Bextor?

Foreword: Please do not come into this thread if all you're going to do is drag Sophie Ellis Bextor. Nobody needs it.

Sophie Ellis Bextor is known in the UK and around the world for her posh English accent and undeniable dance bops.

Sophie first made waves in 1995, featuring on Spiller single "Groovejet (If this ain't love)" before releasing her own albums which all performed well in the UK and she grew to become a British sweetheart.

Sophie moved her way through various pop sounds, culminating with fantastic dance album "Make A Scene".

However, after Make A Scene was released - Sophie did a complete 360, and her next album was something that had never been heard from her before. It was moody, folky, indie music - which made sense because it was released on her own record label (EBGB's).

Her fans adored it and she gained a wave of new fans due to this new style. She continued with the style this year, with the release of her new album Familia. Which has a similar style but uses Latin American influences to create a new sound.

Could Gaga have been inspired by Sophie? She honestly seems happier than ever. Working for herself, making music she loves, avoiding the crippling expectations of the music industry.

Yes - she may not be as successful as if she had the backing of a major label. But she seems happy, her fans are loving the music, she's getting to tour. And sometimes that's enough.

Look, you can be bitches all you want - but just because your ignorant asses don't know who she is, do you think that  means Gaga doesn't?

Gaga has studied pop music for years - and if you think she doesn't know Groovejet, Murder On The Dancefloor, Bittersweet - you are deluded.

It seems like y'all are under the impression that if your self absorbed little asses don't know who someone is then nobody does. And you couldn't be more wrong.

Sophie's latest album Familia charted at 12 on the UK charts and 3 on the UK indie charts. And since Gaga is sooooo indie now I guess that's great right?

You try doing that yourself without a record label. Assholes.

Don't push it...people here tend to not give a proper answer to topics but instead they'll run to post sarcastic posts or gifs.
And now they're gonna tell you "oh stop over reacting, we're fine, you're not"

Oh please... educate yourself

I know who she is but I don't see why would Gaga get inspiration from her.

¿Qué currículum tiene ésta tarántula?

I know who she is, but Gaga grew up in North America when Sophie peaked with that song she featured on + murder on the dance floor. Gaga literally probably has no idea who she is, and thats what I said.

Take a deep breath lmao and calm ya tits

To me...they must not be from the UK? She's a very well known name here.

I loved her first album though tbh. Might listen to it now.

UK sweet heart? I have never heard of her in my life and none of my friends have lol

I don't see a correlation between Joanne and her to be honest.

You'd have to be like 12 to not know who she is.

Then they should educate themselves instead of coming in here and being assholes :v:

I wouldn't say Gaga was inspired but I'd say Gaga's apparently going in a direction now the way Sophie did some years ago. And since it turned out to be not so bad for Sophie, we shouldn't worry much either? That's what I'm getting from this post. Tbh, I'm all in for some indie gaga music but I'm still quite sure Joanne is pop, just with indie/rock/country influences. Either way, I'm satisfied; I love all those genres lol I should probably check out Sophie's indie records too
