V magazine: Lady Gaga's video for "Perfect Illusion" is as frenetic and rapturous of the track.

The Ruth Hogben and Andrea Gelardin-directed video sees Gaga in a Mad Max-esque desert, complete with a souped-up off-road truck and a large metal cage. When not dancing along in the sand, she's moshing in a rapturous crowd of people. While not psychedelia as we know it, there are obvious allusions to the states of ecstasy she sings about—at the very least, it's seizure inducing.

The video is a complete departure from the singer's previous, more extravagant videos, but ushers in a new era. Free of facial prostheses and ornate costumes, Lady Gaga shines in all her raw glory. That stripped-down aesthetic is carried over from the track, which hears Gaga's straining vocals and has been reportedly recorded completely with analog equipment.

Harpers BAZAAR: The visuals feature an angsty Gaga, who kicks around in a desert, belts about her lost love and continues the crop top and booty shorts trend she's been sporting as of late.

Though upbeat and evidently pop, the song gets a slight rock tinge with Gaga's strong, angsty vocals (think back to her work on "Speechless" and "Yoü and I"). The vibes fit the lyrics perfectly, as she belts in the chorus: "It wasn't love, it was a perfect illusion."

MTV: The new visual takes a decidedly different direction for the singer, whose videos are known for using elaborate sets and prosthetics. Instead of turning herself into another monster, Gaga just rocks out in the middle of a desert.

OK, she’s still kind of a monster — her eyes roll back as she’s moshing with the crowd, and at one point she almost rips the head off of her drummer, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker.

I really love how the video captures the feeling I get when I listen to the song. It's not my favorite, both song and video, but the two really do pair up well together.

I can already feel the pretentious rock stans quivering with anger at the mention of PI being influenced by that genre

Frenetic seems to be the buzzword for this single. Been reading all the sites and I had to look it up to know what's the meaning lol

So....MTV is sucking up to Gaga...trying to get back ratings in 2017? Watch everyone fight for a piece of Gaga's perfect ass.

EDIT: I love how Gaga keeps changing the way the media talk about art and pop. It's definitely the start of a new direction. Keywords this era: "raw", "stripped", "gritty", "personal" and "minimalist" "rock".

I approve :golfclap:

While I wasn't impressed with the video at first, I like it now. I retract a previous comment about 'no replay value'
