The comeback is official - thoughts?

So, in terms of a 'comeback' this is the time for Gaga.
She has a new lead single, now a video, announced a new album and appeared in several radio stations to do promo. All we need is a performance now

I actually like PI and the video for it.
The album cover slayed me and I think 'unfiltered' and 'pure' are the right words to describe this era so far.
In my opinion -and as a true fan- this is a crazy time, because it's another side we haven't seen from Gaga.
I also don't care if it sells or becomes a huge thing or not, but I could't help but wonder:

I was following the comments everywhere and have seen much good things but also negative things.
One thing was this: The song and the video are not bad at all, but the music and videos she did in the past were more inventive, creative and remarkable.

I'd like to know what your thoughts are on this?
I think there is something true in that, but that's based on GP I guess.
What are your thoughts on the new era in it's totallity at this point?
What do you want / expect to happen in your own opinion and focused on succes and GP?

I'm totally here for a stripped-down era, but part of me thinks she has gone too far the other way and has abandoned the creative, artistic spirit that drew me to her in the first place. But we're still only on the first single and I doubt she will do "performance videos" for every single, so I'm not going to throw my toys out of the pram just yet. 

If/When she performs PI live, I think I will love it even more. It sounds like one of those songs that really needs to be performed live to truly appreciate how good it is and I'm baffled that she hasn't done it yet. Come on, Gags! People want to see you perform!

It took me a lot of listens to LOVE PI, I don't think the GP has the patience to grow to love it . Its not as inviting as Applause or TEOG on the first listen but I really hope it does well, I love PI more than those two songs already. 

 

She can go as stripped-down and "normal" as she wants (I love it). Just make pop music not indie.

I think PI is amazing and so is everything we know of Joanne so far, i don't think she needs to be more inventive/creative or remarkable.. I think the radio needs to play perfect illusion more and free her from their expectations. everybody constantly expects gaga to be who she was when she first started. and i think that reluctance to let former gaga go is the only thing thats preventing Joanne and PI to do amazing. She's got the talent, artistry, authenticity and emotion, people just need to listen to PI and Joanne for what it is and not for what she was.

I think that they are going for the slow burn in the charts. I mean like one week radio interviews, the other week the video then the other week performances to keep the single afloat. Good strategies. I'm glad she is not relying on gimmicks this time around. Her ridiculous outfits were just a distraction from her music.

This comeback well, it will be just for the fans. In todays pop music if you are out of sight you are out of mind real quick so, when she goes away that long all you can expect is a Gwen Stefani type of comeback. I wish her the best but the reality of her commercial success is a new one.

But there are some true things around here: everybody expects certain things and stick with the past.

Rihanna re-invents, Beyonce does, and a lot of other mainstream artists do. The contrast is just bigger with Gaga, which is in my opninion something good!

idk man I honestly wish all this nonsense would stop. Comparing her eras is literally assuming she's an act; a phoney. You can't compare her eras and at the same time believe she's genuine. They're incompatible ideas.

This is the place where she is in her life right now. It's neither better nor worse than any of her previous work. She was in a different place for ARTPOP, and for BTW and so on. And all these were honest expressions of that period of her life. You can't expect her to do something "better" or "more original" or "more creative", because maybe that's just not who she wants to be right now.

It is what it is and that has to be enough for you. And if it's not, then move on.
