MelbHawker 6,583
Given 'Perfect Illusion' and it's chart positions (after only 10 days), it appears this fanbase only cares about the charts when it comes to our Queen. A #1 song can be absolutely ****, let's be real. Name the last 5 songs that have gone #1.. do you even like/listen to them for your own enjoyment? I dislike constantly looking back on Gaga's previous work at the beginning of a new era - but Bad Romance, her career defining song, never went #1.. and? Should we all devalue it due to this fact? I cannot understand why people who love pop music allow the charting position of a song to impact upon their opinion of the actual song as a standalone work. It's absolute bullshit. Perfect Illusion has not shot to #1. Not all of us like it. It's been released for 10 days. How do we know it's not going to grow into a huge hit? Would it be liked more if it shot to #1 and not moved from that position? It might have already peaked. None of us know. Gaga has had countless #1 hits, sold millions of records, won countless Grammys. She's done it. She could give TWO SHITS about repeating those triumphs, seriously. She's notoriously known for her chameleon-character; the world heralds her for constantly changing her image and pushing her sound into different stratospheres. Perfect Illusion isn't brilliant - but it packs a punch when one listens to it; it's different to what is being released currently. It's not polished, it's aggressive - it's inescapable when you hear it. Staying true to form, it's dividing her audience. Joanne has not even been released yet. Yet I am seeing threads and reading posts from fans who seem to have already heard it and have decided that the album is not for them. I've read posts of people saying they're stopping supporting Lady Gaga because it's not for them. Because it won't go #1, apparently. I cannot even begin to comprehend such stupidity. Joanne will likely surprise us - she's working with people who are not 'mainstream', but who are individually gifted. This album is being positioned as her most honest work to date; an autobiographical collection of songs that aren't as metaphorically disguised as her previous songs. I'm really excited. Stans, such is the direction of our Queen at this stage in her career. Quit craving another TFM because we're never getting the same thing from Gaga. Musically, or commercially. If you dislike Perfect Illusion, then do not listen to it. It's that simple. Wait until the album drops for new material that will likely slay your soul. Not sorry about posting this, either. I'm sick of all the negativity on this forum. We're getting new music; appreciate it. Or just go driving and blast Perfect Illusion - I speak from experience - it's really ****ing fun. Lona Delery 7,214
Sales are important at this point cuz it'll be Gaga's make or break era. Enjoy homemade videos and low budget tour for the next era if she continues to flop. I already stan Lana, I dont need another artist in my life that throws ha career away Sometimes it feels like I've got a war in my mind, I wanna get off but I keep riding the ride
GagaXCupcakke 3,818
True. People just don't understand that artists can have careers without chart success. Florence and the Machine still releases music and music videos even though they don't have much chart sucess. Lana too! Everything is going to be all right. She's transitioning from a pop star to an artist that doesn't need be #1 to be considered great

She still delivers the best video evers The same can be said about Florence and The Machine, Sky Ferreira or even Melanie Martinez.
HOTNebraskaGuy 19,547
This place is filed with just as many "stop complaining about the charts" threads as ones that are actually complaining about the charts.
