He did sound like ****, but am I the only one who gained a little respect for him for at least attempting a live vocal?

Even if they mixed it horribly, it still takes balls to try it... Especially when you aren't famous because of your singing.

It could have sounded a lot worse.

:hor:

This sounds 1000x better than the closer performance though...

Only because of the backing vocalists... when you listen to Paula on her own it's... painful, lol.

(The "Closer" vocals were **** too, don't get me wrong! Just saying he's not the only one who bombed his vocals as the VMA's... far greater "talents" have been right there with him)

By the way... out of context it doesn't hold as much relevance... but to an old guy like me, we all remember this performance as the "end" of Paula's pop career. She was on her way out at this time, already, but she never recovered from this.

Sorry for going off topic, but this thread now has me bopping to this early 90's Paula house music classic!

Hear it the way it's meant to be heard:

No one is mad at him for not being able to sing.

People are mad at him for being so full of it that he thinks he can sing and is blaming the VMA's for ruining his flawless vocals. :smh:

I actually hardly know anything about Paula except that she was big at one point. Fame is so fragile, praying for Gaga tbh.

I love this song

It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences. - Audre Lorde

Lady Palutena

Poor him, maybe with all the money he's raking in he can pay for a vocal coach? Of course, all the money in the world can't make you sing if you don't have the vocal cords for it...

THAT is the song the GP loves?

I'm sorry, but in my opinion, that song lacked any meaning and the melody was terribly bland and uninspired.

He can try all he wants, but he'll never be Calvin Harris.

Nowhere near the musical talent.

Nowhere near the knowledge of his own vocal range.

There's only one Calvin. :worship2:

...also, please note Calvin did not have to hide behind a half-topless girl to deliver either of these performances.

@ReidOne

Yeah...I think you are the only one that believes that.

When you can't sing, that is okay, not a problem, make studio music all you want, but when someone asks you to perform live in front of millions (where Beyonce will follow or come before you), say: "NO", or don't make excuses after people realize (or knew all along) that you are stepping out of your range.

If you have a talent, and are hard working at it, then you can achieve much. If you have talent, but choose to do someone else's job on a false sense of ability and aren't humble about it, then you can goto hell.

Was this the first song he actually sang on? And it hit #1? That's impressive, he has a right to be proud of that. But since his vocals clearly aren't the strongest he should've been prepared to give that performance, knowing how many people would be watching. Don't blame MTV. If his vocals were on point to begin with, being louder than the track and not having an ideal amount of reverb wouldn't be an issue.
