I have now listened to the album at least four times in a row.

It is a solid debut album, a very good one. But not the all-time masterpiece it has been labelled as in here.

The album has a row of standout tracks such as "Summertime Sadness", "Dark Paradise", "Carmen" and "Diet Mountain Dew" next to the previously released tracks. I think the combination of mainly organic sounds mixed with modest orchestral arrangements and slight electronic influences form a refreshing and astonishing sound landscape of streaming and strong melodies.

When I listened to "Born to Die" and "Video Games" for the first time, I got immediately reminded of the "Twin Peaks" soundtrack. I have read in interviews she tends to be clueless about the connection people link to the Lynch show. The theme of the show reminds me a lot of certain prominent guitar chords and soaring melodies that can be heard throughout her music.

I like that the album is surrounded by a rough and edgy sound which has not been polished too much. Unfortunately, it seems as nothing has been polished at all. I have listened to the album on my stereo system, with studio headphones and on my PC which led me to the conclusion that the material is terribly mastered. Various tracks in each songs are blurry and notably unclean. Even more disappointing was the fact that the volume of the leading vocals varied from track to track. Slightly disturbing at some parts...

Intros and outros of the songs are charming and build a frame around the tracks and the album concept. I like that the album has a rounded-up character and has a closing ending. I bought the Deluxe Edition on which the bonus tracks don't seem to be a random addition to the album. Indeed, they continue and expand the album's bandwidth of themes. It is not that I can personally identify with her lyrics, but I highly enjoy the half personal and half fictional way of narrating she uses in her songs to tell the story from an ancient fallen Hollywood star point of view.

Her music is surrounded by a certain aura and sentiment which is both fulfilled and melancholic.

I have already mentioned in a previous post my compliments for the packaging design. The ancient and vintage theme featured subliminally in her songs, is continued in the visualization of the music. The Deluxe Edition is designed to be the replicate of a gatefold vinyl that holds the disc in a separate sleeve. As a vinyl collector, I am deeply impressed by the detailed reproduction of the vinyl sleeve look. Even the crinkle which you can see on the sleeve back when you unfold the package is identical to the one of a vinyl sleeve.

I have to compliment Lana for such a wonderful debut album which carries both meaning and significance. If I had to rate the album, I'd give it eight out of ten stars.

Well since it has nothing to do with the book i'm not sure what you were expecting to get out of the song.

I was hoping something... Anything good out of it. lol

Maybe not.

Gaga could come up with a great song for Dolores. Like Bloody Mary, but with more lollipops and s-x.
