She can't get away with rock because she's not a rock artist. Period. PI is a basic pop song disguised in a rock t-shirt. No amount of boots, shrill vocals, microphone waving can hide it. Gaga was successful with the Jazz era and the looks because that's a natural part of her, and it was real actual jazz / traditional pop, and the people immediately recognized it as a part of her.

They aren't sending this song to rock stations. There is a thing called pop rock and this song fits that description. No one is trying to pass this off as straight up rock.

If you were around in the 80s you'd know that Madonna's first two albums were labelled as "rock". PI isnt a rock song, it's pop with rock influeces, as Aura is pop with techno influences. Gaga began her career doing rock music, it's be music she loves, so she just makes pop music with rock influences now. Remember You and I? Pop with rock. She doesnt need to fake anything because she's done a lot of kinds of music, PI is just a single song and she is just reflecting that sound on the cover, video, and her looks.

I may get hate for this, but she can never do real rock, real punk.. because she comes from a wealthy family, private expensive schools in new york.. it's not engrained in her. jazz? yes. rock and punk? it's not who she is. she may want to be like that, but she'll always miss a certain edge that other people who really struggled, who felt the hunger for money, naturally have. just my opinion. in the back of her mind, she knows she has a family that can be her safety net. she grew up knowing that. real rock, real punk.. it comes from something else.i have seen it a lot before.. doesnt mean she wont do a good job, but it will always be a soft version of rock.
