Is PI really about "all things that aren't real"?

When Gaga has been describing the songs meaning to radio show hosts, i'm always like... what? Gaga, the lyrics in your chorus are "it wasn't love, it was a perfect illusion."

I feel like Gaga doesn't want to announce to the public what the song is actually about, which we all know :(

Of course that's what it means! Instagram and twitter is all a perfect illusion! We are all a perfect illusion. None of this is real.

Lol gaga and her descriptions. I cackled when she said it was about Instagram! No, it's about Taylor.

She doesnt have to explicitly announce what it may truly be about for us to assume. Like cmon.

Thats part of the fun with a song with such an intense meaning, is leaving it up to interpretation, even if we know the real meaning.

The best description she ever made was about Venus: "it's a song about faith... but it is also about sex... but it in a beautiful way... like finding faith in sex"

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

The meaning of the song is probably what bothers me the most.

How can you say to someone after a 5+ year relationship "you were a perfect illusion"?

Well, you don't know what happened between them, so you can't judge her wording

Okay. I'm going to tell you my theory for what PI is really about and I would love to know Monsters' opinions. She talked about how it had to do with social media, and how we have to navigate carefully online so we can know what is real and what is a perfect illusion.

In my opinion, Gaga is talking to us, her fans and the general public, directly, and she is singing about herself. After all of the pain of the BTW era (broken hip, cancelling tour, management etc) and all of ARTPOP's negative publicity (poor reception, "fans" unstanning, etc), she had to resell herself to the GP. Even though she didn't want to. What she wrote about in The Fame, TFM, and Born This Way wasn't true. Or, at least, it doesn't seem to apply to Lady Gaga anymore. That's why she's changed so much recently. The relationship she had with the fame, her fans, and the public... it wasn't love. It was a perfect illusion. She is giving us her real self, and she is hurt.

This is the real Gaga we are getting. No costumes, no characters, no bullshit because none of that was real. What she was giving us wasn't real and our love for it wasn't real. This album is going to be a brutally honest one, I think. Her hurt really shows on Perfect Illusion.

I'm sad for her, and I am hurt for her. But at the same time, I am glad because this is why I come back here day after day. She is an amazing woman, constantly shedding her skin and evolving. PI is so deep and I think is truly a track for the fans. Much love if you're reading, Gaga xx

Maybe because she's angry at herself, or at Taylor.

But yeah, saying to your ex-partner  that they were a perfect illusion is hurtful. I don't think Gaga meant it like that though.

I mean that's what I love about Gaga and her songs and music in general. It never has to mean just one thing.

her perfect illusion could mean anything
