So I just wanted to share some of the observations concerning the new single with ya all.

1)      The song picks right where ARTPOP left.

So far LG5 is, contrary to what many fans keep assuming, the cohesive continuation of her writing and creative journey, rather than a completely new page. Gaga really serves them “husky” Dope vocals in some parts of Perfect Illusions, and Dope was one of the last songs to be recorded for ARTPOP.

So Gaga’s longing to do something more simplistic, or minimalistic, was born in the final stages of ARTPOP production and led her to pairing her songwriting talents with Rick Rubin’s solutions. As we have found from her BBC breakfast show, Perfect Illusion and some other songs from LG5 were recorded at Rick Rubin’s studio, which sort of links her upcoming work with her intentions of 2013!

2)     The song is a major departure from her single strategy and overall single picture.

If you take a look at the structure of Perfect Illusion, you’ll be shooked to see a true reverse expedition with the chorus and verses here. Most Gaga radio singles always have a faster/m0re danceable / energetic chorus than the verses. Poker Face is kind of slow in the verses, but it explodes in the chorus, so do all the songs she has sent to the radio except for maybe “You and I”.

With Perfect Illusion, Gaga doesn’t put additional pressure on the chorus; in fact, for many Gaga fans it was hard to define the chorus upon the first listen, as they are so used to chorus=climax of the record. In Perfect Illusion, verses seem to have a stronger vibe, while choruses seem like a relax. This is unlike everything Gaga has done with her singles, a brand-new approach. In fact, for Gaga fans, Perfect Illusion presents a totally new structure of the single, without repetitive words, syllables, without ma-ma pa-pa-pa perfect illusions :stalkga:, and with the energy of the song allocated in a new way between the verses and the choruses.

3)     Gaga wants to produce TOP 40 hits.

If you look at the production, mixing and vocal execution of the song, it becomes clear Gaga loves TOP 40 too much to give it up:whitney:

First of all, it’s made instantly recognizable with the opening: the electric screams and the guitar chords allow you to identify the song in less than seven seconds. It’s a clear pop mark here.

Secondly, her vocals. In the chorus, when she sings “it wasn’t love” for the first time her voice sounds damn sweet and sugary. The husky vocals (aka the DOPE vocals) are mixed in a way that doesn’t let them make the song any heavier than the music itself sounds, thus aiming to secure the spins at TOP 40. I mean, if Perfect Illusion was mixed the way DOPE was mixed, GGD would be in the disastrous meltdown now.

And last, but not least, the production. Gaga is surely stepping off the EDM roots with her new song. She wants a solid basement of drums, guitars and bass guitars - all blended together in a way that allows them to create a melody without grabbing the sonic attention, while electronica here serves as strong accessories to the general tune. But she still wears those accessories and we all know how damn important the details are.

Yea, I'm gonna just forget about ARTPOP for a few months. Is that okay with everyone? Could we try that out?

I completely agree with everything you just said. When I was listening for the first time with my boyfriend I noticed how the structure of the song has changed and how it's a complete deviation from her former singles. I think this record is going to be very vocal-based with minimalistic production and more instruments opposed to drum machines. I'm thinking more you and I/edge of glory/dope style songs.

I think it was brilliant and advantageous for her to do National Anthem, Till it happens to you, Cheek to Cheek, and all of the tribute concerts that were viewed by the GP. And despite me not caring about charts, It does help establish her voice to non-monsters and I think this album cycle will really result in more listeners.

I don't think Perfect Illusion has minimalistic production though. In my opinion, it's overproducedly underproduced :oprah: all the sonic solutions are neatly organized to fit the adrenaline / ecstasy theme. It's very vocal-centered, on that I agree

No no, i meant LG5 will have minimalistic production itself. I think her voice is going to take center stage and the production will be more to fit her vocal range and less EDM-esque themes that ARTPOP had
