Well, is it or is it not the truth?

In order for it to be shade, there must be truth.

I agree 100% percent. She's a pretty big hypocrite, and I've stated it multiple times too. I still love her though because that's really her only flaw.

At least she isn't super different though, can you imagine her bashing the gays and saying rape is good/ nudity is ungodly? :toofunny:

Her career has always been Gaga. She would dress up more crazily if that was this album's version of Gaga. She's obviously aware that she's toned it down, just look at Applause's single cover for instance. She's too articulate with her career for this current look not to have been premeditated and discussed vigorously. It's still a piece in her puzzle, perhaps one on more of the subtle side.

I mean her fanbase are 90% fashioncrazed LGBQT+ members, she surely thought twice about ditching an important part of Lady Gaga. Right?

Humans are hypocritical at their core. But that is what makes us, us.

All these parts pushing and pulling against each other.

That is how change happens. We settle. We learn, we've had our experiences.

Do you honestly think you'll be the same person from when you start your career to a major life point?

Hell, we change, everday. you cannot be the person you were yesterday, today.

Change is one of the constants in this world. Alongside death and taxes.

Also couldn't it be argued that the Op isn't the same person they were when they fell in love with Gaga?

moreover, a lot of her fans probably ended up disappointing her too but if she said that you dissapointed her you'd take it personally.

people keep saying "people change" because guess what? People change.

finally there were interviews al the way back in 2011 where she talks about doing something more stripped back and differe to. People aren't all one thing just like lady Gaga isn't just the lady Gaga from TFM/BTW..

I quote Gaga on this one:

"What I am as Gaga really is, at this moment, what other people think Gaga is. It's not necessarily what I am entirely cause even if I feel like Gaga, you know, meaning this stronger individual person of myself that I discovered being young in NY loving music, meeting with young artists, working with musicians, with writers, studying the scene, being involved in the lifestyle... I started to call myself Gaga after people called me Gaga and it was this sort of nickname that I had for me at my best. It is a bit of a creation but I think actually at this point now it's other people that have created through what I have made, their perception of what Gaga is as a separate entity from me. [...] So what I would say is what I am at any given moment is some sort of amalgamation of Stefani, a young Italian-American girl from New York who’s an actress and a songwriter and a rebel, and another part of me is what I’m creatively interested in at the time with music and how that culture and lifestyle and the art that arose out of that is influencing me as I’m sort of reading and writing music. And that if I’m playing a character at the same time as that, I’m also that as well. I live a lifestyle of sort of endless, relentless love for making my work. And that in every way informs me as a person in every way, all the time. It’s a quite difficult thing for me to answer, because I’m entirely Stefani and I’m entirely Gaga but I was also entirely the Countess."

It's  normal to evolve and change. You should try it! It's not 2009 anymore ... Selena is dead.  :wtfga:

During The Fame, TFM, and BTW, I think Gaga convinced herself that her stage persona was her real self. She probably felt like Stefani was the reject and Gaga was he person everybody wanted and loved, so she let that aspect of herself completely take over. Nicola and other team members commented on how she would have to change outfits every few hours, so she was really living the name.

Eventually the alter ego consumed her and she reverted to Stefani with a touch of Gaga, and that's who we have today. For better or worse, it seems like she is done with the original Gaga.

Well my entire post is basically about changing for the artistic viewpoint, so yeah, basically change.

Gaga just has to change differently, and more often. She herself, has to deal with pop music. Which is constantly changing, as is she.

Unlike a writer, who can change genres, or their characters, their ideal, or an artist who can change what they draw or their preferred subjects, Gaga has to change nearly everything, because that is who she is.

This has to be done while keeping true to herself, which she may or may not have found.

Being an artist, being a person, is about adaptation, change, knowing what you want, knowing what others want, deciding whose needs you intend on fulfilling.

And I think it's about damn well time Gaga fulfill's her own needs.

Everyone freaking out about 'normal' Gaga ought to calm down.

Gaga is just a manifestation of whatever is influencing Stefani. Not so much a character, as that implies a sense of inauthenticity.  Rather, Gaga is a heightened version of Stefani's creative side, and she reflects all those artistic impulses.

To panic over this 'toned down' Gaga would be to assume it is permanent. She's just influenced by simpler things at the moment. If there was any sense of permanence to Gaga's style, we would still see her parading around as Seashell Girl, or scaring New Yorkers with her JazzGa perm.

Her interests and influences are eternally dancing through different realms, as is the case with any artist or creative person. This is her present. If it isn't for you, don't sweat it. Let her ride out this wave of inspiration and exhaust its resources. Then she'll find something new, and it could very well appeal to you.

Identity is not fixed and we should not expect anyone else to conform to what our ideas of them are. We are all entirely malleable; rather than wanting Gaga to embody the things you love, go out and embody them yourself. You will find it much more rewarding.

Lord Temptation

Notice how it's always those afraid of change who are the most stubborn. They refuse to accept it when others change because they see it as a sign of weakness or insecurity. To them strength is arrogantly refusing to change. And unless they have never changed then it is THEY who are the hypocrites.

I wasn't trying to imply otherwise, so I apologise if that is how it came across. It just feels to me like people project their ideal selves onto Gaga, and expect her to embody that persona. Which isn't good for her, or for the fans! I think it likely comes from fans idolising Gaga when they are younger, and wanting to be like her (consciously or otherwise). Then, as both parties mature, the fans keep projecting those same ideals onto her, and there's a disconnect.

I love that people are inspired by Gaga at such a young age - I was too. But I wish that, as people grew up, they would be able to apply those lessons to their own lives, rather than trying to reeducate the woman who taught them. On the most basic and fundamental level, Gaga's message has always been "Be yourself". And that works both ways.
