I've only watched it once since they killed off Will Horton. :( I miss him and Sonny. They were such a wonderful TV gay couple.

YES!! That storyline meant the world to me... You have to understand, I am from Missouri (midwest US), where being "gay" is still widely considered as sinful and and a "choice." Back home, it's still "OK" for people to use the word "*******" in mixed company.

For me, as as gay man, to know that my ENTIRE FAMILY was watching the "Will is gay" storyline unfold, and seeing how well they handled Will's coming out really meant everything to me. 'Days of Our Lives' is known as the "midwestern soap" so it is seriously noteworthy that they tackled this storyline.

When I met Diedre Hall (aka "Marlena", the matriarch of modern 'Days' fans) I gave a lot of thought about what I wanted to tell her. And ultimately, I decided to to tell her "thank you" for being such a central figure in that storyline (as Will's grandmother) who helped him come out. She was beaming when I told her this!! And she told me "you have no idea how many fans like you I have heard this from and it absolutely means the world to me that I was given the chance to share this story. I'm so happy I had a chance to be a part of it.

It was seriously one of the most meaningful celebrity encounters I've ever had! To know that she has devoted her life to this character, it really meant a lot for me to get to share with her how her work had really made an impact on my life and how my family looks at me.

I know it sounds kind of silly, but I am sharing to hopefully give some perspective that this show is about much more than just folks getting buried alive, getting possessed by the devil, cheating/lying/scheming/etc... but it has had an actual impact on the things that really matter in my life.

I miss Passions tbh.

Bring back the overdramatic, natural disaster themed episodes, with witches and magic and hot guys that went gay.

This is so sweet.

I called into Dishing Days once on Afterbuzz TV once when Freddie Smith was the guest, and I told him something similar. My boyfriend and I were having a rough patch, and we got through it, and this was the time I started watching Days, and seeing Will and Sonny's story really made me feel more normal. Freddie was so sweet and said that he hears this so often, and it's the best compliment he could get as an actor. (The video is on YouTube! It was such a sweet moment.)

There were some rumblings a few months ago that Chandler was coming back, and ugh, I would do anything for that to happen. That would probably really help with viewership.

I heard those Chandler rumors too... Sad they have not come true! I would tune back in if they did. But without his mom, Sami (Alison Sweeney) on the show, it is very unlikely (and yes, especially given the budgets).

What is it woth American Soap Operas being 52 years long? How does it work? Like, Spanish telenovelas take up to 6 months. Maximum 8 months before it starts feeling it is being stretched, so how does 52 years even work?

In the US, soap operas have been a staple of the "big 3" network TV stations since their start in the 1950's and 60's (NBC, CBS and ABC).

And many of the hit soaps precede television itself, with their origins on radio.

The characters and family lines have carried on for decades... many of the original actors from the 70's and 80's are still the main characters today (at least, of the 4 shows still running).

Part of the way they have kept viewership going is because of the longstanding "traditions" of these shows/characters/storylines. In the US, "new" soaps fail quickly. For whatever reason, US audiences gravitate to the soaps that have roots spanning generations.

It's quite beautiful when you think about it. Especially in today's culture of fast consumption and fast rejection. Sad to see this era is coming to a close.

Damn! That is crazy for sure! In the Hispanic market, like I said, the most they will go with it six months. Anything after that, the audience sees it as the network milking it. But here is the funny part. A. If the soap opera is too good, a rival network will recreate it with a similar, yet different title. Example. If the soap opera in a network is too good, and that novela calls itself "Betty, the ugly one" anoter network will snatch it and rename it as "The cutest ugliest one." Or a network will wait five years till they recreate the soap opera again.
