Yeah but she did all of that when her team was equipped. Don't get me wrong, I am hoping, praying, buying for Gaga to get that #1 with Perfect Illusion and LG5. The music will be of quality, we know that. It's Ronson, Bloodpop, Tame Impala... How could it go wrong? But her promotion and visual aesthetic is of utmost importance. ARTPOP was a mess in terms of coherence in both promotion, styling and visualisation. The Fame, The Fame Monster and Born This Way were massively backed by Troy, Vincent and Interscope/Universal and her team featured two of the world's best creative directors and stylists. They're gone now (Vince is still there but meh.) This album needs heavy promotion, a cohesive image and styling, or it won't do what we all (secretly) hope it to do.

She still outsold most other albums with ARTPOP, which is considered her "flop" album and the era in which she didn't have the best "stilists" as you say. I mean, she does need to up her visual game, but I am just saying that she is still the same person that could be very successful with just her talent alone.

But girl look at the facts, ARTPOP still sold an amazing amount of records yes, but "the look" was literally a mash-up of all of her other work. "I am every icon", remember? The Applause VMA performance was her going through her TF/TFM/BTW looks. The only "look" the ARTPOP era produced was "seashell girl." I loved that wig but let's face it, in the end, it was just her in futuristic clothing with a Shakira wig and/or dreadlocks. Brandon was Nicola's assistant for TF/TFM/BTW, during ARTPOP he was promoted to the stylist cause Nico left, now he's an elegant womenswear designer. I hope he and Gaga have something different in store for us this time around. It's a completely visual world now, people respond well to 1 image per single/video/album cycle. Gaga's aware of that. She said in 2009, "I love that people associate me with blonde hair, bangs, futuristic clothing and sunglasses. That's my look." And it's so true. Think Amy Winehouse, you think eyeliner and beehive hair. Say Marilyn and you think of blonde wavy curls, red lipstick and a wing eyeliner. Say Boy George and you think of black eyebrow and avant-garde eyeshadows. Say Bowie and you think of the lightening bolt... The list is endless. That's why Madonna stay(s)(ed) on top for so long, because she evolved throughout her career. COADF was a disco record, so her look was disco. LAP was a darker, religious album so her look was darker (literally, she went brunette/black) and religious (the LAP video with the crosses.) People expect Gaga to deliver it ALL. That's Gaga. True catchy music, amazing vocals, memorable looks. Just her "raw talent" (as in vocals) only works when the focus is on her voice (the Grammy's, her Oscar performance.) Perfect Ilussion is rumoured to be 140 beats per minute, that's higher than Poker Face and Just Dance. If it's so beat-driven, she can't stand still on a stage and focus on her vocals.

Born To Slay

I agree but at the same time, we had big expectations for Applause was the song sold almost half of what was projected. Remember Applause wa sinitally suposed to debut with 400k? Remember ARTPOP was suposed to be the highest selling first week of a female in 2013?

I think if Perfect Illusions does well, Gaga stans won't be afraid to predict big things commercial wise but after last time. They're afraid.

She has said so many times she doesn't care about the success or how popular she is. She has changed so much since 2013 music seems to have taken a back seat for her. Not that i'm complaining, i'm just pointing out it's okay if people think this album won't be a hit considering she herslef doesn't care or make an attempt to make it big. Not to mention all her prior mainstream success was fueled by great songs, killer looks, amazing performances and a fierce, fearless gaga, all which seems to be lacking right now

GloriousRomance

The issue most of us have right now is that we have very little to go on.

We like reality, regardless. Right now, we have no idea whatsoever if we are underestimating Gaga or overestimating her. It all relies on the song, at the end of the day.

Let's all form a prayer circle and hope for some Bad Romance level slayage.

Recently I have read comments like "Don't expect a #1 from Gaga", "Chainmoskers, Sia, ect., are coming, cancel PI", "Don't over-hype yourselves", ect. And to me this obviously shows that you are underestimating Gaga. I mean do you even know who you are talking about. This is the return of LADY GAGA, the global superstar. This is the person that oversold almost all pop acts with her "flop" album, this is the person that sold over 1M copies for a song without a music video, this is the person that sold over 1M copies in a week for one of her albums, this is the person the had the first huge music video on Youtube, this is the person the set the new trends in music, videos, performances, and fashion. This is simply the same person the dominated the world for 3 years. Gaga might have been somewhat dormant during recent times, she might be a different person personally and artistically, but she is still the same person that has the biggest potential in the music industry. She is still Lady Gaga.

She has the potential. But does she wanna use it? I don't think so. That's why sometimes I'm mad at Gaga. because she can be the best but she doesn't want to. But then she posts on twitter "I miss my fans" and "Mother Monster" and I cry screaming SORRY MOMMY I WON'T DO THAT AGAIN. But I do it again...:stalkga:

Nothing was pointing to a VMA performance, though, so it's not a very good example. Everything about Perfect Illusion seems promising, so why should have intentionally low expectations?

I'm talking about false hopes and false hype. Some people watched the show instead of sleeping just to see if she would make a surprise appearance or put an ad or something.
