I would be fine with that if it did ok on streaming and radio too. I dont think first weeks really matter anymore with streaming being the dominant force. it's whether the song lasts.

And it's not likely that the single is going top 5 without music video released first-week. She'd also need the song on Spotify from the first day.

 

The only way to come closer to Closer ( ) is by having big promo lined up first-week and having the remix EP released first-week too. Audio video on fri, lyric on sat and music video on sunday.

I think people here still have too high expectations. We need to remember that she lost a lot of fans after BTW, which resulted in the shocks/meltdowns of the Applause and ARTPOP debuts. She lost even MORE due to ARTPOP. She's not going to just magically have a huge fanbase again without having a solid album era again.

I think fanbase size is overrated for singles and underrated for albums though.

Make Me and Rise shot to #1, but Britney hasn't had a hit since 1745. On the other hand, Justin Timberlake isn't known for his rabid fanbase and he can get big hits because of radio support. Radio + video = singles, multiple singles = albums (unless you're a few certain pop girls).

Also like I was saying before, Beyonce has a huge fanbase but hasn't had a successful single in awhile. But has huge album sales.

stanbase =/= fanbase

Britney and Gaga have a big stanbase, but especially Britney lacks in general fans who aren't obsessed with her but would vote for her if she nominated for a VMA or would tune in to a concert special. JT has no stanbase but many people 'like' him or would say 'yeah I'm a fan, I really liked that song he put out last year.. what was it called again?'

 

 

That's why Britney and Gaga have big first-day sales but don't really stay at the top for the rest of the first week.
