PI/LG5 should've been a surprise drop.

I've been thinking about it over the past couple weeks since PI was announced, but I honestly think PI and subsequently, LG5 should've been a surprise drop like Beyoncé or Blonde. Having been gone from the mainstream music scene for quite some time, I think Gaga could've used this time to rebuild a certain type of mystery for this era that has long been dissolved from overexposure. Think of how people were so fascinated, with countless media outlets across all mediums requesting for interviews to find out who Lady Gaga was ... think of the bleeding costume from the VMAs 2009.

Now that that aspect of Gaga is long gone in the GP's eyes, I almost feel that people (aside from stans) aren't as hyped anymore. I remember checking Billboard, Rolling Stones, and other music news sites around the same time PI was announced to find no front page coverage about the single, though it was mentioned in smaller articles buried somewhere in the site. That, in contrast that to the buzz that occurred when Born This Way was announced at the VMAs ... Again, perhaps it's not fair to compare the two announcements since BTW was announced on national television in her most controversial outfit to date, but I sort of wish she just did a surprise drop of all of the songs and visuals for it packaged in one album. In that way, she could've had more artistic control (e.g. harnessing a specific vision and developing a cohesive and consistent album for it) and marketing control (e.g. focusing on just marketing the album instead of trying to do both the artistic portion and marketing for it all at once, preventing potential leaks, push backs like the Apple Music deal, etc.).

Of course, I'm not going to assume anything before the era has even begun, but I think that a surprise release could've been a good opportunity to maximize interest by immediately giving the GP substance to consume instead of hype and to minimize mess.

I don't know, what do you guys think?

She was basically forced to say it was coming on September so people would shut up about her performing at the VMAs but it didn't work

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

I know a lot of people believe she did so because the meltdowns her fans were having with various media (radio stations, V mag) and to try to get us over the VMA hype.

Yeah, but those are stans. Are the GP as hyped though?

I think LG5 is going to be a lot more of a surprise drop, vastly different to the hype machine for ARTPOP & BTW.

I think Gaga has been very impressed & inspired by the way the industry & the fans responded to Beyonce's last two albums & the way Hello was received when Adele dropped that.

In fact, I wonder if it's going to be the new industry method to NOT hype things up so much in advance and surprise everyone suddenly with a out-of-the-blue release.

The fact we still not having a "Date" keeps it a surprise factor for me tbh. It's like, We know it's coming in September, but we don't really know the day. And if it just drops, everyone will be surprised then nnn

I'm glad it was announced before

The whole visual album concept is pretty amazing, I'd love one. But I wouldn't be able to leave 2016 without music from gaga n

I'd say no. I almost want to say it doesn't matter regardless, because it hits radio eventually so they'll hear it whether there's hype or not - tho I guess if the "surprise" element would affect the GP, then I guess I see how that could've been beneficial.

Yeah, a surprise release may become an industry standard, but of course it's the most risky if you don't have enough of an impact to do so.

It wouldn't work for Iggy Azalea, but it could for Gaga, Rihanna, etc.

"OMG, did you see that? First she copies Madonna, now Beyoncé...who's next? LOL #flop #Roar"

+ what Red said: if she hadn't announced anything her fans wouldn't shut up about the VMAs (...which, in the end, they still didn't :poot:, but her actions were right...)

Not to mention that Gaga is not Beyoncé...when Bey releases an album as a surprise it's genius and artistic, if Gaga did the same: "here we go with the gimmicks again, #GOSH! #Imtriggered"

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

Have some trust in Gaga and in her management. Let her realize her own artistic vision and if she dropped the album just like Beyonce did with her self-titled album, she would be chastised and dragged to pieces for emulating Beyonce's antic ;) A surprise release out of nowhere would definitely backfire. If she had done it first, I would be all for it but this whole minimalist and unexpected albums are growing really boring and predictable ;)

It wouldve been nice but no doubt everyone would call her out for "copying" Beyonce

I'm glad she announced since it shows she's old fashion, I'm also tired of surprise releases anyway. Also you said "minimize" hype when the hype hasn't been on the level as ARTPOP.
