They're acting like it's really the internet fault they got **** ratings, it's absurd. The AMAs and BMAs, which are targeted at the same demo, still get good ratings. They pull what MTV pulled a few years ago. Last years AMAs had 11m viewers, that's mor then almost any VMA show.

MTV is a cable station. On all networks combined it was 10 million. It was talked more than these shows online and the online stream, which is really important to them. This will undoubtedly make the views go up next year. Celebs still prefer the VMAs over any award show besides the Grammys.

All networks combined was 10m? I read it was 6.5m. I'd like receipts for that plz.

And 2015 broke streaming records as well in the same way but there was still a ratings drop.

Hmm... I must be confused about the 10 million. It definitely was not a flop. It was talked about everywhere and people watch the performances a lot. People are going more towards the internet and VMAs are doing just fine. A couple of adjustments would definitely not be bad. Can't wait for next year.

MTV understands the Internt better than other award shows. They capitalize on it, but this will definitely help ratings go up next year.

If people only watch performances in YouTube after they air, that's still bad for MTV. How do you get sponsors to advertise your show if people don't watch it? Yes people discuss the highlights but that attention is nothing if it doesn't bring ratings.

The drastic decline this year in ratings by almost 4 million viewers is hard to justify. Most people have cable and could easily watch the VMAs. The BMAs this year killed them in ratings and it's likely the AMAs could pull nearly double the viewers of the VMAs.

If streaming is the future, why are only the VMAs suffering in ratings? People still have cable and still have the channel.

Someone who gets it. I think it's sorta common sense, oh well. I learn every day common sense is not so common. :laughga:

Uh, I have a bunch of suggestions to make, MTV:

1 - Instead of having 248 different ppl making bad jokes and dropping passé slangs, you could chose one good host. Remember Amy Schummer at the MTV Movie Awards? It was the last time I remember ppl saying nice things about your awards ceremonies.

2 - You don't need 45 jokes every minute...it's the most try hard thing you do and it never works. You CAN be cool and interesting without that...

3 - We get it, MTV, you're cool with black ppl, you don't need to go overboard with it...

4 - Make the night a little more diverse musically...

5 - This is the one thing I'm not so sure about, but Beyoncé's performance got me thinking if it wouldn't be cool to have only longer performances throughout the show...like, cut back on the "jokes" and all of the BS, but create 4 or 5 big 15 minutes performances, with big production value, the performers could have guests (so you could jack up the number of ppl on the stage and persuade more ppl to watch)...like 4 or 5 Super Bowl halftime shows packed in one night. I would feel more tempted to watch the show if it was like that...but maybe that's just my crazy thinking...

Anyway, I do think it's smart to become more "internet oriented", but you need to fix your show...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

I would love if your last point came true. And yes cut back on the ****ing jokes. I didn't laugh once and I found myself wanting to punch the ppl talking for a large chunk of it. Don't give time slots away for ppl to debut music videos or to talk, and give more time for long performances.
