(If it's impossible you wouldn't be here in the first place) Life exists because earth happens to be in the exact distance from the sun with an atmosphere. It's a lot of chance and coincidence that made Earth habitable for life forms to appear. So wouldn't there be another place in the universe where all the coincidence all happened? There are bacteria that live in temperatures above boiling point and below freezing point. Life finds a way to live on in ways we don't expect. Lets just say that in theory, if it was ET species that has so advanced tehnology and is capable of intergalactic traveling, why would they try to comunicate with us? The only reason that makes sense is that they were only put us in a catalog, as a species s known to them, we wouldnt be interesting enough to them to try to communicate with us, hypotetical tey would see us as ants.. We dont try to communicate with ants, and ask them why do they civilization the way they do.... let alone ultra advanced species with sophisticated tehnology unknown to human race- what could they possibly gain from us? Not to mention, there's so many places in our solar system alone that could harbor life. The clouds of Venus, under the soil on Mars, under the ice on Europa, and Titan resembles a proto-Earth and could eventually give rise to life (probably when the Sun is in its death throes and considerably heats up the out solar system). There's no telling what could be out there or if it even fits our definition of what life is! Who says it has to be carbon based lifeforms that rely on a watery planet that orbits a medium sized sun? Like you said, we have life forms here that live in insane places. Extremophiles that literally eat rock and never see the sun or water. The signal is curious but far from conclusive There is constant background noise from space. And events like super novas, major collisions etc can cause signals that are different from the regular background noise This is like the famous "WOW" signal from 1979.
