I think it says a lot that as an American I know virtually nothing of the talented and exalted individuals in other countries simply because my culture is exported far more than it cares to import. I had never heard of him before.

*** "white or black" American ;) (non-Latino of course)

Ask any Latino/Hispanic (any race) and they know who he is.

En paz descanse, un grande de México. Y muere justo hoy cuando da fin en tv abierta "Hasta que te conocí", la serie que cuenta su vida; qué ironía.

English isn’t my first language, so please excuse any mistakes

Haha, this is true. I'm definitely caucasian. Sorry for my mistake.

Asians tend to know about stars in Asia as well.

I find it fascinating how Americans with more than a few generations apart from their original ancestors are so disconnected from the rest of the world, but I guess that's the natural way of things.

Makes me wonder if in 50 years the grand kids of my generation that are Latino will be out of touch with Latin American culture. We already see kids who don't know Spanish and their parents are direct immigrants.

What a terrible loss, I still can't believe it. There's actually a Tv show series about his life and the finale is tonight, weird. He will always be remembered, his music, his lyrics, his pain.

Omg. This is so sad. Such an icon.

I was at Gwen concert in Fresno last night and he was scheduled to play at the same arena in two weeks and was thinking to myself I should see him at least once in my life. RIP
