The blood, the death on this VMA's stage, is 100% symbolic of Britney's pop death on this very stage 2 years prior (and referencing her most iconic "greatness" from the year 2000 at the same time).

The fact Gaga was sat next to Beyoncé and they both applauded Madonna's speech : I miss that time so much
