Bonkers 29,660
I don't think there will be much of anything from Gaga tomorrow because tomorrow is Britney's night. Her new album is doing great, she has all that history with VMA's. If Gaga does anything it will be perceived as trying to steal her thunder and it will start another fan war. ReidOne 12,427
As I recall, it was a complete surprise that Janet Jackson showed up to perform "Scream" in honor of Michael in August 2009 (just 2 months after he died) with her first ever live performance of Scream... with an intro by MADONNA (which was a semi-surprise, that was confirmed a few hours before). Prob my favorite VMA moment ---- true pop music legends converging here. Madonna. Michael. Janet. Honoring the King, right after he passed. I cry a little every time I watch this. You guys.... re-watching this again so many years later and I am SHOOK all over again. Can we please take a moment and put this into context? This is what iconic moments at the VMAs are all about. This was the 2009 VMA's. Michael Jackson had literally just died 2 months prior. Madonna and Janet came together, for the FIRST TIME in their careers (two long-term, seemingly bitter rivals) honoring the King. It was beautiful. Madonna's speech was absolutely heart-wrenching... the stuff of legend. It read like an excerpt from her memoirs. In this moment, she told us stories about herself (the Queen of Pop) on her date with MJ (the King of Pop), which we had never heard before. Everyone watching was hanging on every word. And not only that --- it was the iconic 2009 VMAs! Listening to Madonna's historical words about MJ, In the audience sat legends beside legends... Telephone-era Gaga & Beyonce: Taylor Swift: Pink: Alicia Keys: Puff Daddy: Jennifer Lopez: As they all watched the legend herself, Janet Jackson, perform her history-making duet with Michael "Scream" FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER on a live stage (***14 years*** after it was released!!!!). I was DYING. DEAD. DECEASED. Beyonce was so shook by this moment, she lost her **** like a fangirl in the audience with Gaga right behind her! . . . . To top it all off, THAT MOMENT WAS JUST THE OPENING. On this same stage later that night, Taylor Swift and Kanye West made pop culture HISTORY (for better or worse): ...and the world fell in love with Lady Gaga. That was the 2009 VMA's... god bless. @Computer @PartySick @Lord Temptation

Gaga's performance, in light of Michael Jackson's death, becomes so relevant and even more profound given the context of that time. My goodness what a VMA's that was. I don't understand pineapples, so I don't eat bananas.

When you look at it within this context, it puts a whole different spin on it. Gives me goosebumps. Such an incredible moment in pop culture.
