Can anyone say that they are 100% sure she was releasing exclusive to Apple??

this article states -

"Interestingly, the shenanigans appear to have impacted Lady Gaga‘s upcoming release.

In a new article assessing the Ocean drama, Hits Daily Double shared the following:

"[The saga] triggered Lucian Grainge’s mandating an end to all exclusives—notably including a deal that had been in place between Apple, Lady Gaga and  UMG’s Interscope. Having announced new single ‘Perfect Illusion’ earlier this month, it’d be safe to assume that the dissolved deal pertains to Gaga’s upcoming release."

"with rumors suggesting the company's streaming music service was in place to exclusively launch not only the upcoming single "Perfect Illusion," but the singer's entire fifth studio album."

thanks to @estoniankid for finding this article - some more information to add to the discussion!

I am sceptical still as its an article... No word from the label or Gaga. So meh tbh.

Some of you (trying to not be rude) aren't considering the whole deal passed exclusive streaming.

Personally, the situation would've been awesome. All iTunes Banners, Number one on hot tracks and the albums bar, on Apple Music also. Possible Beats1 adds, Apple Music adds, a linked radio station (Not actual but on A.M). Lets not forget to mention, the streaming exclusive would be for only a week probably and the whole campaign would be WORLDWIDE. Gaga would also get a lot of income, which is hard in the streaming era.

But to look on the other side, there's no way we could know just exactly what this contract included.

Born this Way Sold 1 million during the first week without being exclusive.

AM: 15 million users
Spotify: 30 millions
Others: Unknown

The scenario could be:

First Week; Am, spotify and others

or

First Week: Am only + money

During that week the deal have to cover those 30 million and the rest of the whole market.
Gaga will be in a risky position cause she will lose the surprise factor. Those 15million will listen to the album. If it sucks, the reviews will be bad and she will lose potential sales during the global release.

If the album is ok, it won't be so messy, but she will lose the interest from fans. Most don't want to pay a service just because of one artist. In terms of sales... she can only count with those 15 million.

Exclusives are risks and they only work for promotion. She won't make real money from it! And in this case she will be promoting AM and not the single.
The real benefit from this goes to AM and not GAGA. Cause people will know they have the most requested artists and will subscribe.

They may give good money to artists, but takes the focus from them putting it in the service.

That's why you have "Only on x-box" or "only on PS4" games. They want you to buy the console cause the game will eventually fade, but the console will be there during years.

Was streaming really a big deal in 2011. No. Uncomparable. The risk is something that can only help, i have a feeling anything they set up would only be a week long exclusive (for singles atleast) and if gaga wanted to stream music exclusively to make money on the album, then this is the best way. Its honestly good either way.
