The original member of *NSYNC is not who you think it would be.

Lou Pearlman (who just died) approached a Doo-Wop singer that worked at Universal Studios in 1995. The singer went by the name Chris Kirkpatrick.

in the beginning Kirkpatrick was made out to be the lead of the group, as seen in this German version of their first album

Pearlman told Kirkpatrick that he would finance a boy band if Kirkpatrick could get together a group. Therefore, Kirkpatrick called up a friend he met working at Universal Studios, Joey Fatone

The two boys needed help finding more members so they asked for Pearlman's help. Pearlman went through tapes he had and found one of kid who was on The Mickey Mouse club. His name was Justin Timberlake.

Justin then called his friend from the Mickey Mouse club, JC Chasez, to join the group

The band wanted to find a bass singer and found Jason Galasso to join the group and they soon became NSYNC, which was an acronym using the last letter of their first names. JustiN, ChriS, JoeY, JasoN, JC.

But Jason soon left the group because he didn't like the direction it was taking. He had no interest in being a teen Idol.

So Justin then called his vocal coach and his vocal coach sent him someone from Mississippi named Lance Bass.

The group released its first album in Germany in May of 1997, the ages of the boys at the time were:

Chris Kirkpatrick: 25

Joey Fatone: 20

JC Chasez: 20

Lance Bass: 18

Justin Timberlake: 16
