Whilst it may be less classier than the Grammy's or Oscars, to disregard the VMA's are absurd. They are an important piece of pop history and can easily propel Gaga back into the music landscape. If someone doesn't like her "new" performance, don't blame the VMAs. She could've done anything different from the rumored blood performance. Personally, I enjoyed the VMA performance, but the idea was messy and I would've liked to see something more similar to the promo concert she did afterwards. Paparazzi VMA performance is actually the reason why I became a fan. It was so powerful and unique and dark without being TOO MUCH like what she had planned for the Applause performance (according to rumors). I really think that around BTW era up until ARTPOP beginning she wanted to do too crazy things and it put many people off.
