Redstreak 6,653 Posted August 18, 2016 Share Posted August 18, 2016 The Justice Department plans to end its use of private prisons after officials concluded the facilities are both less safe and less effective at providing correctional services than those run by the government. Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates announced the decision on Thursday in a memo that instructs officials to either decline to renew the contracts for private prison operators when they expire or “substantially reduce” the contracts’ scope. This should give people hope that the biggest issues can indeed be tackled, because as many have said- this is top-tier major. When it comes down to giant glaring problems the last thing to do as citizens is to accept the status quo and just say "thats too big of a problem" or "too lofty of an idea to tackle". Rubbish. Sanders is one of the people that helped America see that its problems are never bigger than our collective abilitiy to change them. This was definitely something on Bernie's platform I agreed with. So would the justice department absorb corporate prisons or oversee them like other infrastructure authorities?
