I don't mind Rihanna, I like a lot of her tunes tbh and some of her music videos, but she really just has no presence despite her singles.

I mean overall, those are the three major "SHE IS IT" girls to come across pop music.

*Current Top Pop Girls (I'm not including Adele, she has no cultural presence in the US)

Oh, OK that makes more sense.

I love Rihanna's urban hits. But she bothers me so much. -_-

Oh, OK that makes more sense.

Rihanna and Katy are just phases in pop. See: Cyndi Lauper, Janet Jackson, etc. Each generation has it's phases.

Well Katy more than Rihanna.

I agree.

And I think each phase also has an "it" girl.

Madonna passed it to Britney, and then Britney passed it to Gaga. (And all three continue to be very successful today.)

Have any of you noticed that Rihanna has had a 7 year career and yet no true moment of cultural impact? I mean Britney when she was 7 years into her career (2006) She had already been one (if not the most) predominant figures in pop and that was without extensive radio support like Rihanna. Britney really never got a lot of airplay. Her 3 highest peaking songs (position wise, not audience impressions) on the Radio Songs chart were all with FF. HIAM was her highest peaking radio song (#5) and then TTWE beat it by peaking at #4 and then IWG peaked at #6 (tied with Womanizer).

Can only imagine what kind of it-girl star will come in 3/5 years. :flutter: Or maybe even 10/15 yrs. depends on how long she maintains the hype. Edited by ghettogoth77

Gaga's nearing 5 years, so we'll start to see fiercer competition on her #1 status in the next coming years.

She's still only in her mid 20s though, so she has time to keep it.

Paula Abdul. I am BAFFLED that some people would rather have her over Britney. Paula Abdul started flopping by 1995 only 7 years into her career. Britney still has her career stable and well-organized 13 years into it and she has yet to have a REALLY bad era. Even Blackout managed 3 million WW and 2 platinum hits and her second highest peaking song (Gimme More #3).

Madonna was predominant I would say up until perhaps 1991. Then she declined from there.

Remember in 2010 all the "IS KE$HA THE NEW GAGA?". :smh:

They don't belong in the same sentence.

WHO'D CHOOSE PAULA OVER ANYONE? :toofloppy:

Perfect way of putting it. :lmao:

Idk, I think she had a U shaped success until ROL era, then a complete decline. ROL being the second tip of the U and Like A Prayer being the first.

Yup, and my mom even owns a magazine that says

"IS PAULA ABDUL THE NEW MADONNA?" on the cover. That's literally what it says.

AKA think 20 years from now and who will be the new pop legend.

How would she even come close, she was never a button pushing act?

I'm still trying to figure out how K$ and Gaga got comparisons, they are two different kinds of crazy.
