Just watch the video! How can they choose Rio as an Olympic city with such a mess like this going on? This country isn't ready to hold something like this. And what are they going to do with these people robbing and attacking tourists?

OT: The Olympics can't forecast how world events will change before they chose a new location 20+ years down the line. It's terrible, but it's just a risk associated with high-profile games.

This type of **** happens in literally every city that the Olympics are held, not just Rio. The difference is that countries that can afford it, like Russia, arrest homeless people and kick them out of the city before the games start. However, opportunistic actions from locals should still be expected, especially in impoverished areas. The problem is also white people flaunting their **** as if they were still in their rich ass countries, not realizing that they are in areas that have been ****ed up by white European colonialism and American intervention.

Rio is a prime location for the Olympics, and Brazil is ready to hold them, but discretion needs to involve both sides.

If I can be with my phone in my hand on the streets in my country it should be possible in EVERY place. It's about EDUCATION and RESPECT. Their parents should teach them if they can't go to school.

That's some privileged and ignorant **** to say.

 

You have to realize that these people don't have the opportunities you have. The majority of the people in Brazil don't even make enough to money to live paycheck to paycheck. A lot of these people don't access to education even if they wanted it, thus many of them can't get jobs, and thus many of them are homeless. Their parents probably don't have an education either. It's not about education and respect, it's about trying to survive. It's easy for you to say that it's not hard because you have never experienced it. The reason that you can walk with your phone in hand in places like the U.S. is because the U.S. has done a "good" job at isolating crime into impoverished areas populated by people of color and keeping densely-white-populated areas and areas with rich people crime-free. Most countries, however, don't have the amount of money to that, and even if they did, it wouldn't be ethical.

I grew up in El Salvador and I've seen this ****. Many people turn to robbery when there simply aren't any other options left.

Don't act like you wouldn't get robbed if you walked down any street in NYC at night with a phone in hand, by yourself. Discretion should always be a priority.

 

Also, while we're on this topic, take a moment to realize that the Olympics will leave Brazil way more in debt than they were before. The tourism isn't enough to cover the expenses of the Olympics, even Russia suffered economically from theirs, so foreign presence in Brazil is obviously gonna make people mad.

They organized them anyway, and they wanted to do, so it's their problem. Insted of organizing such an event, they could've invest that money in anything else more important.

Are you actually this oblivious?

Although they will come out of debt from the Olympics, and will be for a while, the Olympics are still social events that keep people happy. That the same reason Brazil hosts World Cups, they are fun and studies have shown that hosting big sporting events results in a measurable increase in happiness for local populations.

The preparation for the Olympics also creates new jobs for locals, and it also increases the positive exposure of the city they being held at for weeks. Countries like Brazil want to be seen, especially with the hope that the Olympics will cause an increase in tourism even after they are over. Not to mention, Latin-American countries are ridiculously proud, and they want to show that.

 

Also, it's not like they had that kind of money to begin with, and they probably borrowed it under the obligation that they had to use it for the Olympics.
