They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

But Just Dance was released before I Kissed a Girl.  And her videos became a thing only during Teenage Dream era (post Gaga), so if it's about timing Gaga should receive it first.

Well, ok, but we all know JD took a long time to even debut on any charts. Months after release it only got the #76 position on the Hot 100. It wasn't even released in most areas until June and not even in the UK until December. IKAG was released worldwide immediately and entered charts within its first week - she actually became the highest debuting new artist in over five years!

And I disagree about the second argument too, because that video was actually already nominated for five VMA's, including Best Female Video. At the Japan MTV VMA's it actually won Best Pop Video. Hot N Cold was also nominated for Best Female Video :shrug:Waking Up in Vegas was nominated as Best Video at the EMA's.

Gaga is one of the few commercial artists in years who placed absurd art and surrealism into the front. You cannot compare Katy's best videos with Gaga's best videos in absolutely no way. Both in the storylines and visuals. 'Born This Way' is a great example for an incredible conceptual video that reached a mainstream exposure. Show me one video that is even close to Born This Way during that time?

She never put art into the front. She was inspired by it, surely, and made references (which is already pretty striking, indeed) but that's something very different.

Absurd art is not even a thing to my knowledge, and surrealism she only put in her music video's once if my memory serves me right (Born This Way) so..

Anyway, now I'm noticing that you're trying to spin the convo into a "how can you say Gaga's mvs's aren't impressive" direction, even though I never said I think Gaga's music video's aren't remarkable. I clearly stated that Gaga deserves that award, but right now is not the right time. That's all.

'Alejandro' and 'Judas' for their religious imagery. Something Katy Perry wouldn't dare to do. Yes, Gaga was rightfully accused of copying Madonna and other artists for these two videos in particular but it's still innovative for that current time in pop culture. Innovative in the sense of bringing back what it meant to make real statements inside music videos.

Or even 'Paparazzi' that comments on the dark side of being a celebrity.

I know you're not a fan of 'G.U.Y.' and it's not a great example for a song that reached a mainstream level but it has so many hidden messages in it which I find almost genius.

I mean, I get your perspective. But you're thinking of these music video's as a fan. When you're discussing award shows and honors that's not the perspective to take. Look at the people who won the Video Vanguard Award. I don't think anyone besides Bowie, Lester (for The Beatles), Godley and Creme, Rybczyński, and Michael, truly deserved it. Ever. Not even Madonna, who won in ****ing 1986 when she hadn't even made really impressive stuff yet. After that only Britney comes close, but she had stopped making interesting video's for many years before she won, which makes her win ludicrous too. Kanye's win was deserved but by that time the award had become so vapid that his win felt like forced, and not inspired.

This is an award given to artists who are known for having notable music video's, and for having the music video as an integral part of their success and appeal. Katy is as much of a valid candidate as Gaga, easily. Now cut this absurd art crap. This is not about who makes better music video's. If you're truly and genuinely interested in artistic music video's (which you are clearly not if you consider Gaga's mv's to display veritable art currents), there are LOTS of artists and bands out there who work with directors that are really the people who should be talked about in the context of music video awards, and they're not. I accept that because this is pop music. It's time a lot of Gaga fans realized that as well. You're not stanning for Proust, you're stanning for a pop artist whose creative team behind her is the only reason you get to play the art card, solely to slam other people's favorite pop singers.
