monstereo 1,232
Mostly local countries that share the same culture as these refugees (Islam). Is anyone really surprised by this?
uo111 5,285
I hate to be the "super meany" but, there is no actual obligation to take refugees. Europe is allowing it because they feel bad. The rest of the world doesn't want refugees, to be frank.

Luc 4,776
It would in all honesty be a better comparison to look at the percentage of GDP spent on the refugee crisis per country. This graph is pretty much meaningless, as it only shows the destination of refugees, not the extent to which the government tries to help the refugees. I think it would give a more informative graph. I also don't really understand how they get the 11 million is 50% number. I often hear that there are 60 million refugees worldwide. Here it is claimed that there are only 22 million. Are refugees who stay in their home country excluded?

gagzus 25,206
It always upsets me tbh when we hear about this because i just think of the fact all these refugees are ACTUAL people and everyone forgets that like they've had their lives destroyed because of the western world and they've had their loved ones murdered and they've been terrorised but all everyone can think of them as is a number in the economic system

That's not really true. Arab gulf countries aren't taking any refugees. So how do you explain that?

Syria had a very unstable government and was still essentially controlled by France. Palestine was controlled by Britain, which is literally the whole reason why people want Israel gone in the first place. "In 1882, Egypt was occupied by the United Kingdom, following the Orabi Revolt against the Egyptian khedive. Though never formally a British colony, Egypt was essentially under British control thereafter, even after the formal recognition of Egyptian independence in 1922, with British troops remaining around the Suez Canal zone. Full Egyptian self-rule was not realised until the Egyptian Revolution of 1952." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egypt_during_World_War_II The allies used countries they controlled to house refugees that they didn't want to take in themselves. Whose point are you trying to prove?

Whose point are you trying to prove? Apparently this is true. Even the MERRA was created by the Brits Thanks for pointing that out, that's interesting. Though it doesn't make monstereo's point more valid (imo). I still have my Arab gulf argument for example.

I agree, it doesn't prove his point. Of course the main and obvious reason that these countries house the most refugees is because they border Syria and Iraq. Except for South Africa, but then, I don't know who those refugees in SA are. I doubt they are Syrian.
