Chaka Khan has cancelled all her performances for the rest of July, as she checks into rehab for treatment to prescription painkillers. Very sad to hear she relapsed, but I'm relieved she is getting the treatment she needs. Wishing her the best. Praying that drugs do not take away another one of our music legends.

In the wake of Whitney Houston's death in 2012, Chaka spoke about the role of drugs in Whitney's death and compared it to her own experience of protecting her sobriety.

Shortly after the above interview, Chaka relapsed and sought treatment again in 2013, which she spoke to Wendy Williams about:

For those unfamiliar with her, Chaka is one of the legends of R&B.

Chaka was also one of the performers at the 2009 Royal Variety Show, which Lady Gaga was also part of:

Chaka is also a jazz musician and spoke briefly about Lady Gaga in 2015:

You released a jazz covers album in 1982 and you’re playing the Love Supreme jazz festival in the UK this summer. Why do you connect to jazz so much?

Jazz was my first music. That’s all I knew as a kid. My dad was a be-bopper and he used to listen to all the great horn players, so that’s all I heard when I was at home. It’s always been in me.

What did you make of Lady Gaga’s foray into jazz last year with Tony Bennett?

I haven’t heard it but I’m sure it’s great. She’s amazing. Jazz is unstoppable. It’s the most cerebral music besides opera that there is.

The lack of cares the young generation has to give for Chaka is frightening :emma:

Agreed. Her influence and impact on music is much greater than many people realize.

On that note, it's a good time to mention that one of Kanye's first hits was based around a Chaka sample:

Oh dear, she's such a beautiful and talented lady, I hope she will be healthy soon and wish her well; it is a very depressing time already.

One of the things I respected most about her was her speaking out against the Clive Davis Grammy party "carrying on" while Whitney's dead body laid in the exact same hotel. She is so, so, so right here, if you ask me.

Many users are only interested in pop music/basic singers and/or are like 14 so...I'm not surprised ?

I pray for her. I have experienced addiction in my family, and I know how hard it is, so I hope that it goes well and that she remembers she is a legend!

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

Now this is interesting... I never realized this. 5 of our greatest musical "divas" were born within the same week of the year:

Lady Gaga
Aretha Franklin
Mariah Carey
Diana Ross
Chaka Khan

An article from 'Vogue' that analyzes the astrological significance:
http://www.vogue.com/13419529/aries-lady-gaga-diana-ross-aretha-franklin-mariah-carey-chaka-khan/

"Diva Week: In all fairness, it’s no official holiday you’ll find on your lunar calendar. But for astrology buffs, it’s literally the stuff of legends. During a particularly auspicious five-day stretch, some of the most famed chanteuses of our time were born: Chaka Khan. Mariah Carey. Diana Ross. Aretha Franklin. Lady Gaga. All Aries women, they lived up to their fire-sign origins, blazing trails and leaving indelible markers on pop culture with their record-breaking careers and distinctive looks."

Chaka event Tweeted to Gaga and the other ladies about this earlier this year!

Hope she can recover!

Walk down the runway but don't puke, it's okay. You just had 10 donuts today. Without frosting.
