GaGa's peak was higher but she lasted 3 years before declining. Britney lasted 6.

6 years ? where ?

Gaga 2008 - 2011 - BTW

Britney 1999 - 2003 - In The Zone   Not to mention with adjusted sales BTW actually destroys ITZ and it also spawned #1 unlike ITZ

Edit: Wait Britney (album) was big decline as well. That means Britney lasted only 2 years before declining.

Toxic was bigger than any song from BTW and was sent to radio in 2004

Baby One More Time was released in 1998

Gaga didn't start impacting the US charts until 2009

Britney 1998-2004

Gaga 2009-2011

Billboard confirmed that BTW outsold every Britney album in first week.

For total sales you can use this table that takes industry decline for each year into consideration.

Basically TF/M would sell 36 M in the year of Britney´s debut (1999)

BTW sold more most Britney singles (including Toxic) . It went #1 unlike most Britney singles (including Toxic). Really big Britney´s eras are only her first two eras - based on sales and not some nostalgic sentiment that accompanies Britney´s career.

I dont think so. There was some graph of adjusted sales and TF/TFM outsold any Britney album. I believe Gaga´s peak was higher.

The Fame Monster was a separate album tho, it was a separate era. You can't compare that to any Britney album. You'd have to combine Britney's 2 peak albums then.

Toxic stayed in the top 40 much longer than Born This Way' and receives more recurrent spins to this day. An impressive feat for a song that's 7 years older.

Carmex

Well Katy said not too long ago that she was taking time off after touring. I doubt she'll release this year but she'll probably release early next year.

Not completely. In many countries, including the UK, it was released only as deluxe edition of The Fame. In the US it was sold both ways. The deluxe edition sold almost the same amount as the standalone form the first week in the US. It cant be separated utterly.

Toxic is still a classic over a decade after release, it was a big deal. Digital sales weren't as big back then, so it's not really a fair comparison sales wise for singles.

Still not sold more than BTW and sales is the only thing that actually matters. But I dont want to really argue here, this wasnt meant as Gaga vs Britney thread.

At the very least then it should just be The Fame vs BOMT, since BOMT didn't get a rerelease.

But it did worse still. Since no matter of past sales it failed to fight its way to the top of the charts and peaked only #9.
