Thirteen-year-old Hallel Yaffa Ariel was attacked while she slept inside her bedroom in Kiryat Arba. A security guard who responded to the incident was wounded before the attacker was shot dead by other guards. The Palestinian health ministry identified the assailant as 19-year-old Mohammed Tarayreh, from the nearby village of Bani Naim. Thirty-four Israelis have now been killed in a wave of knife, gun and car-ramming attacks since October. This is disgusting, she was only 13 and she was sleeping, she was innocent. I can't believe this conflict is still going on, we are in 2016! This event, as tragic as it is, is almost a poetic sketch of the huge problem that Jewish settlements in occupied Palestinian territories create. Both sides have lives ruined, and acts of violence from both sides just keep on impregnating each other. Different responses are possible. The man must be removed (at the risk of becoming a local hero), but the settlements must also disappear and it's the Jewish families that themselves can play a huge role here.
