You just awakened ha. Spoiler Have mercy on us Enigma OT: I agree with everything you've said. Gaga is the only artist who used to be able to create controversy on such a massive scale and at the same time have an extremely positive message attached to it. I like how she used Fame for good. And I wish she would do that again. I'll lift you 3 inches off the ground and drag you to a meter and a half
Brian Ryan 1,468
Better question, why are most pop stars forgettable here? ARTPOP flopped. It seemed Lady Gaga was forgettable, so I don't understand this thread. Of course, I'm not shading my Mother Monster. just saying.
Lucas 26,305
None of them can renew their image & sound every era like most of the pop stars with a strong legacy did, and none of them know how to master fame, and get the public interested in them for a long period
xeynuraf 191
If it wasnt for Tony Bennet gaga would be in the same boat (she said it herself). This disposable pop star phenomenon in my opinion started with the internet. Before the intetnet all of the greatest pop stars or legends had some type of distance that made them god-like somehow. Now, they have become human. We can even see when they misspelled something lol. We know how they think about something instantly. The over exposure is so quick that people get over it in a month. Some of you think that this is a new thing, but some of you don't remember most people with hits in early 2000s and if you do, they dont get played on the radio. the internet culture is very evil to artist too. they get bullied all the time when they have access to everyone's opinions. even if stars find the cure for cancer there is a mob of people out to destroy them. whatever they do is not good enough. thats is why there are more meltdowns (like beiber) suicides ect. i think this disposable culture of music and stars is here to stay sadly. HauntingHollow 4,310
Because they are unoriginal, uncreative, repetitive and bring nothing interesting or new to the table, mediocrity is never memorable and basically everyone these days is mediocre You can not hide if nobody pays attention to you :*
StrawberryBlond 14,776
The pop songs of today are very forgettable and interchangeable, bar a few exceptions. It seems like everyone is either selling out (Ellie Goulding, Meghan Trainor, Sia) or going even more generic than they were before (Fifth Harmony, Justin Bieber). Then there's all the generic new blood (Zara Larsson, Jess Glynne, Shawn Mendes). There are a couple of exceptions and some who are trying new things but for the most part, it's still the same old crap. Gaga is one of the few pop artists still taking risks. And honestly, right now, the charts are in a strange place, with genericism no longer winning. It seems that being a bit different is the name of the game now and most popstars just aren't up for it, they don't have the ability for it or their label won't allow it. But popstars have always come and gone, with very few surviving multiple decades in the business. Madonna is the last surviving successful pop act from the 80's, maybe Kylie on the outside. Mariah, Britney and Justin survived the 90's. Rihanna, Katy and Gaga survived the 00's. But everyone else...they're on the brink. A big reason is because pop is primarily made for the young. Once the young grow up, they've out-grown this style - that's why boybands only last a couple of albums. Yes, there's the new generation after them to act as potential replacements, but that doesn't happen because the current generation doesn't want the music from the generation before them. So, if the previous generation thinks something is uncool now, the new generation will see it as even more uncool. So, the popstar's career ends. Gaga's ahead of the game in that she tries to make more adult pop music that'll appeal to more age groups and be a bit more timeless, the same way that others like Madonna and Mariah did. That's smart. More popstars need to do this.
