they're being so extra, this is OUR space for our issues don't come here to make it about yourselves you're no more important. Plus this lowkey doesn't shock me since homophobia is common in the black community but still.

That's not exactly a helpful generalization. They're not being homophobic, according to the OP

"Toronto’s local Black Lives Matter co-founder Rodney Diverlus said the department's gesture was being 'used to mask the reality of police relations among the queer and trans community, black people, indigenous people, sex workers, etc.'"

But I'm not defending how they handled it. The approach is terrible, out of place and ultimately counter-productive.

Somebody knows how to play the race card, I see.

But bad move, imo. :stalkga:

There's a time and place for everything. Clearly this is NOT the time for this especially with the Orlando tragedy less than a few weeks ago.

And with the plenty of murders towards LGBTQ Black People as well. The group consisted of POC LGBTQ Youth. They have every right to attend Gay Pride and bring up awareness.

You can bring up awareness without a belligerent approach.

I notice that when something like this happens a lot of you immediately discount the whole movement :interestinga:

That girl's tweet is the prime example of what's wrong with a lot of people in that movement.

well if they keep hijacking LGBT events with a BLM agenda then people have a right to be annoyed  there's a time and a place for BLM but i'm sure they're also welcome to walk hand in hand with LGBT people instead of needing to burst in uninvited

This post makes no sense.

A short length video determines that they were "belligerent" the entire time? how do you know they just randomly went to the event with their signs? these were POC LGBTQ Youth so it was probably planned beforehand. You don't know.

I just attended my Pride last night and there were two BLM floats and a Trans BLM float. These are POC LGBTQ based awareness they're promoting. They didn't "hijack" anything  and how do you know they were uninvited?

Well at least this was less messy than the girls that got on stage and start giving their whole speech how their protest is more important or something like tht.

Black Lives Matter protesters interrupted a news conference last week as the Toronto police chief was unveiling a mural for the city's LGBT community.

According to a police news release, the mural is meant to celebrate the history, diversity and strength of Toronto’s LGBT community.

It was accompanied by a public apology from Chief Mark Saunders for the 1981 bathhouse raids, in which 286 men were arrested on charges of prostitution and indecency.

Black Lives Matter protesters, however, claimed it was all a publicity stunt, chanting, "No pride in police."

because it says in the OP  i'm not saying every BLM LGBT related moment is an intrusion, i'm saying that when they interrupt like in this case and also the girl who took over at that Orlando speech and made it about BLM, it's pretty unfair  much like when people discredit the whole movement with All Lives Matter

Well considering the tweets and facebook posts about them as condescending individuals..yes belligerent. It definitely wasn't planned beforehand since many were unexpected by their attendance. Also I hate to break it to you but life isn't a tea party where we all come together and kumbaya while talking about our struggles. People are going to have differences no matter what.

At least they're not excluding gay people in their own event as far as I can see.
