A New Kelly Clarkson - Signs with Atlantic Records

As I predicted yesterday, Kelly Clarkson's big announcement is that she is signing with Atlantic Records.

All week Kelly was singing songs by artists who all had something in common. Turns out they were all signed to Atlantic records at some point. 

 

As a result, Kelly will end what she called an "arranged marriage" with RCA records, the company that she signed with after winning American Idol in 2002. 

Kelly had numerous public issues with RCA over the years. Her 2007 album "My December", an album that Kelly wanted, but the label didn't. Her battle of words with Clive Davis and her displeasure with the Kesha situation. 

 

Kelly announced that she will have a new album out in 2017 and it will be a "soulful" album. Atlantic is completely on board with this new direction for Kelly. 

I guess we'll have to wait a few years extra for the return of our pop/rock princess Kelly Clarkson.

I think it's a great move for her. As good as some of her song are, there's always been this artificial feeling to her work, like her heart wasn't completely in it (with the exception of My December). Hopefully Atlantic will give her more room to express what she wants.

Here for the soulful record. She's clearly got the voice for it and she's too old to be trying to keep up with all the pop hits. Excited for her!
