Since the shooting at an Orlando nightclub last week that left 49 people dead, reports have emerged that gunman Omar Mateen frequented the gay club, used gay dating apps and had gay lovers.

But the FBI has found no evidence so far to support claims by those who say Mateen had gay lovers or communicated on gay dating apps, several law enforcement officials said.

Mateen, 29, told police negotiators he had carried out the shooting that began at 2 a.m. June 12 and ended, after a three-hour standoff, when he was killed by police.

He claimed the shooting was carried out in allegiance to the militant group Islamic State, as a message to halt U.S. bombing in Iraq and Syria.

Several Pulse regulars have come forward in the days since the shooting, claiming to have seen Mateen at the club or to have been contacted by him on the gay dating apps Grindr, Jack’d and Adam4Adam.

In seeking to verify the reports, federal agents have culled Mateen’s electronic devices, including a laptop computer and cellphone, as well as electronic communications of those who made the claims, law enforcement officials said.

So far, they have found no photographs, no text messages, no smartphone apps, no gay ****ography and no cell-tower location data to suggest that Mateen — who was twice married to women and had a young son — conducted a secret gay life, the officials said.

I would not be shocked if they were bribed by someone to claim that Mateen did this due to internalized homophobia in order to steer the conversation away from the real reason of being mentally ill or homophobic. 

Making it about gays killing other gays lessens the blow on Republican's conscience for example.

It's important to note that one can never definitively prove that Mateen wasn't gay because that's not something you can prove based on circumstantial evidence. 

I can see how potential internalized homophobia contributed to his mental illness overall.

What this does prove is that the shooting was not a result of some revenge plot due to a jilted lover or something.

Fukcing a$$hole! The more I read about this guy, the more I hate him. Regardless if he was mentally ill, there was no reason for this. Even if he was a repressed gay guy, gtfo with OMG THE ANSWER TO EVERYTHING IS KILLING PEOPLE. But ai swear to God, the moment I read that this had to do with being in the closet, I called bull on that. Media, as always, trying to cover up stuff like this. It sounds better to say Blame the gays than to actually cover the real event.

I never believed those asinine accusations to begin with  Didn't it seem a little too convenient  that only hours after the massacre people were coming forward claiming he was gay? And shortly after, naturally, the conversation began to shift from painting this as a hate crime (which is what it was) to one of "OMG poor guy was gay and ashamed of it, so he took to killing 49 people to cope!! Homophobia doesn't exist in 'murica, who cares this was a targeted attack on the LGBT community??!"

In the face of the FBIs findings, Univision seems like they'll go forward with the "exclusive" interview they had with Omar Mateen's alleged 'lover'.

Hold on the article says they are still looking for other phones or equipment for communications with ISIS because there is no actual communications with ISIS on the devices they have recovered. It really does feel like they are trying to steer the narrative from gay hate crime, or terrorist to mentally ill, gunman. Just some dude who watched to many videos and went crazy. Why would he target a gay club that is hours away from his home? There is one in Port St Lucie. It just strikes me as weird.
