Hillary Clinton is leading Donald Trump by 7 percentage points, according to a new poll — one of the latest national surveys to show the presumptive Republican presidential nominee badly trailing his likely Democratic opponent. Clinton earned 47 percent support in the new Monmouth University poll released Monday, while Trump took 40 percent in a head-to-head matchup omitting third-party challengers. Another 5 percent said they would support another candidate, while 6 percent said they are undecided and 2 percent said who said they would not support anyone or declined to respond. And the numbers only get worse for Trump: Nearly six in 10 registered voters said that stopping him from getting elected president is important. And though nearly half said the same of Clinton, her advantage is undiminished when the survey sample narrows.
